Four new members inducted into SALUTE

The Alfred State College (ASC) chapter of SALUTE inducted four new members, Jennifer Aul (Avoca, NY), Ryan Darrow (Webster, NY), Johnathon Helms (Portville, NY), and Matthew Proper (Perry, NY). 

The Alfred State College (ASC) chapter of SALUTE inducted four new members, Jennifer Aul (Avoca, NY), Ryan Darrow (Webster, NY), Johnathon Helms (Portville, NY), and Matthew Proper (Perry, NY). 

SALUTE (Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, Excellence) recognizes academic achievement of student veterans in both two- and four-year institutions of higher education.

To qualify for induction undergraduate students must meet the following criteria:

Alfred State Welcomes Chancellor King

SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr.

The Alfred State College (ASC) community welcomed John B. King Jr., Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY) to campus. King, who is visiting all 64 SUNY campuses, met with faculty, staff, and students. The chancellor says he was struck by the emphasis on the development of career skills, diversity of students, campus beauty, and positive energy among Alfred State Pioneers.

Hundreds of Alfred State students were honored at the 39th annual Honors Convocation. Dr. Craig Clark, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, presided over the event.

Alfred State celebrates Douglass Day

Members of the Alfred State community came together in the Hinkle Library to celebrate Douglass Day. Each year, as a celebration of Frederick Douglass’ birthday, people across the world gather to help create new and free available resources for learning about Black history.

Alfred State College (ASC) hosted a forum that focused on enhancing the local healthcare workforce. Administrators from three local hospitals, St. James, Noyes, and Jones Memorial, along with Elderwood learned more about the educational opportunities available at the college.

Fall dean’s list honors 901 students

Nine hundred and one Alfred State College students have earned dean’s list honors for their academic success during the fall 2022 semester.

Nine hundred and one Alfred State College students have earned dean’s list honors for their academic success during the fall 2022 semester.

Students must have completed at least 12 credit hours for the semester and earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) out of a possible 4.0, to qualify for the dean’s list. For the most recent semester, the dean’s list includes 901 students. In addition, 245 of these students achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Students, faculty, and staff participate in fall poetry reading event

Alfred State College students, faculty, and staff participated in the fall poetry reading event hosted by the English and Humanities Department.

Alfred State College students, faculty, and staff participated in the fall poetry reading event hosted by the English and Humanities Department.

Held each semester, the poetry reading event in the Allegany Room allows an open microphone for all in the college community to share. The event featured music by Tim Bocchi, a variety of desserts from the culinary arts department, and student artwork.

Professor Whitman publishes a new book

Dr. Mark Whitman, an associate professor in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at Alfred State, recently published the book "A New Understanding of Burnout: Empowering Change Through Prevention: Cracking the code of burnout of public safety but important for you!"
