Nationals Bound: Trio of Pioneer earn trip to NCAA Division III Championships

A trio of Alfred State athletes earned trips to the NCAA Division III National Championships with strong performances at the NCAA Regionals. Sean Malenfant (Averill Park, NY) and Zachary Levey (Horseheads, NY) will compete at the Wrestling Championships while Conor Compton (Rexford, NY) will compete for the second straight year at the Diving Championships.

Alfred State has been selected as the runner-up for the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) Special Olympics, Community Service Award as announced by NADIIIAA today.

Each of the selected institutions has been recognized for the impressive community service projects performed by its student-athletes during the 2022-23 academic year.

Alfred State is awarded $2M for more career-focused education

Alfred State College (ASC) has earned a United States Department of Education grant for over $2 million. The funding is through the Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Program and recognizes how students at Alfred State earn not only a diploma but also skills that are in high demand in the workforce.

Trap team finishes fifth in the nation

The Alfred State Trap team finished off their first season with a fifth-place finish at the USA College Target League National Championships. This comes at the heels of winning the Class 1A Conference C fall season regular season championship.

Ashley Clemente named a SUNY EOP Ambassador

“For more than 50 years, the Educational Opportunity Program has served as a guiding light toward upward mobility and student success for those who may not have had a clear path to college. Our EOP student ambassadors, many the first in their families to go to college, are a testament to what can be achieved with the support provided by the EOP."

Ashley Clemente (New York, NY), an Alfred State agricultural entrepreneurship major, has been named a SUNY EOP Student Ambassadors. Clemente is one of 22 students from 21 different SUNY campuses to be part of the program.

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Ambassadors are being added to mentor their fellow students, create a student EOP support network of EOP students across the SUNY System, advise the Chancellor on strengthening the program, and help inspire more students to seek opportunities through EOP.

US News ranks Alfred State No. 1 thanks to student outcomes and faculty excellence

Alfred State College (ASC) once again ranked as the No. 1 SUNY Regional College by US News and climbed to No. 8 among all public and private regional colleges across 11 states and the District of Columbia. The latest US News & World Report rankings again confirmed excellence at Alfred State in an analysis of hundreds of regional colleges across the nation.

To ensure that federal funds go to good use, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) collects and analyzes data regarding approximately 6,800 US universities and colleges. The most recent annual feedback report to Alfred State College (ASC) once again shows how ASC is outperforming its peers in assistance to first-time college students and low-income families.

Alfred State was one of 258 campuses in 38 states and the District of Columbia to be named a Voter Friendly Campus by Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. 

The initiative recognizes institutions that have planned and implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2022 elections and in coming years.

The Marketing Communications Office at Alfred State College (ASC) recently won several national and international awards. Six prestigious honors were achieved in March including a top ranking for the inauguration of Dr. Steven Mauro.
