Third-Party Sponsorship
at Alfred State College
Alfred State College allows organizations such as employers, foundations, unions, non‑profits, and the military to help students by paying tuition and fees directly. This is known as third‑party sponsorship.
How It Works
- Since each sponsor has different tuition assistance policies, students should review all details before enrolling.
- Once sponsorship is approved, a conditional deferral is applied to the student’s account as anticipated financial aid.
- If the sponsor does not cover the full cost, the student is responsible for the remaining balance.
- Sponsorship must be a guaranteed payment—SUNY Alfred does not accept sponsorships based on grades or course completion.
- If the sponsor fails to pay, the deferral is removed, and the student becomes responsible for any unpaid charges, which may result in a financial hold.
Sponsor Responsibilities
Sponsors must submit an authorization letter or financial guarantee before the payment due date, including:
- Student information (full name and ID number)
- Academic term covered
- Amount covered (or specific courses paid for)
- Billing details (what expenses are covered‑tuition, fees, books, etc.)
- Sponsor contact information (name, phone, email, and mailing address)
- Authorized representative’s signature
