Spring into Action weeks begins Saturday

The Alfred State community is excited to take part in numerous service activities as the college begins Spring into Action week. Events begin on Saturday, April 6 and run until Sunday, April 14.

Eight students spend spring break working with Habitat for Humanity

“We were able to help paint another house with Monisha and learn her story. Seeing her face when she saw all the walls up on her house made the whole trip worth it.”

Eight Alfred State College (ASC) students and a staff member spent spring break working with Habitat for Humanity in Myrtle Beach, SC. The trip was part of the Alternative Spring Break service initiative coordinated through the Center for Civic Leadership.

Annual Project Prom Dress Extravaganza to be held April 6

"The Project Prom Dress Extravaganza means a great deal to local families and the sisters of Delta Chi Omega have worked hard to keep this initiative a mainstay for our community. The sisters of Delta Chi Omega (DCO) and the Center for Civic Leadership are excited to announce that the annual Project Prom Dress Extravaganza will be held April 6 at Alfred State. The event will be held in the Small Event Space in the Student Leadership Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Group of Northland students participate in relief trip to Florida

“I felt fortunate to be able to take a fantastic group of students and be part of something much bigger than ourselves. A student works on a jobsiteA group of four students and one faculty member from Alfred State’s Northland campus traveled to Fort Myers, FL to participate in a relief trip in conjunction with the All Hands & Hearts organization. This was the 25th trip Alfred State has participated in with the organization.

Alfred State was one of 262 campuses named a Voter Friendly Campus by Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. 

The initiative recognizes institutions that have planned and implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the elections. Alfred State is one of twelve campuses, seven SUNY, who were recognized in New York.

University Police give thanks to students with Food for Fine Forgiveness

“It is great to partner with Student Senate and Civic Leadership on this initiative as another way that University Police and students are all on the same team. The University Police Department (UPD) at Alfred State is giving thanks to students who are true on-campus partners with officers in keeping the campus a safe and tight-knit community. UPD is offering an innovative Food for Fine Forgiveness program to show their appreciation. UPD has teamed up with the Student Senate and Civic Leadership to help students eliminate one outstanding parking ticket while helping others.

Community Needs Hub opens in Peet Hall

“We are so excited to have this new space to provide much needed services to our students. We are appreciative of everyone that worked so hard to make this a reality. We now have a home that allows visitors to access the services we offer within our department.”

Alfred State College recently opened the Community Needs Hub. The space located on the ground floor of Peet Hall houses our campus pantry, a clothing thrift store, lab and academic loaner equipment station, and houses park and trail clean-up equipment.  The Community Needs Hub will be a great addition to campus student support and service opportunities.

Community gathers for Day of Service in Alfred

Just under a hundred individuals including students from Alfred State and Alfred University joined by members of the Alfred community gathered Saturday for a Day of Service. Projects focused on helping spruce up areas on Main St. in Alfred.

EOP Leadership Summer Prep Academy students assist Habitat for Humanity

“I heard from several of our Prattsburgh partners. One thanked me for bringing our future leaders to Prattsburgh. Everyone from the Town Supervisor to the homeowners, who were helped, were appreciative of everything that the students did.”

Alfred State College (ASC) students in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Leadership Summer Prep Academy gave back to the local community in Prattsburgh, NY.

Nearly fifty students and staff from the EOP program helped those in the Prattsburgh area with exterior projects like painting, staining, light landscaping, and yard clean-up. Others in the group worked on repairs to the Village Square Park gazebo.

Alfred State Interim Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Afua Boahene and Coordinator of BIPOC Scholars and College Transition Specialist Dr. Brian Saltsman celebrated and educated the community about Juneteenth at the Alfred Farmers Market on Sunday.
