As assistant professors and co-founders of a group to encourage female student interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), Dr. Danielle Bond and Dr. Tabitha Sprau Coulter are igniting the imaginations of young women by showing students how rewarding and interesting engineering can be.

Dr. Jon Owejan, assistant professor of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology, and Nathan DeMario, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering technology, have invented an advanced cooling system that doesn’t require a chemistry degree to understand how it works; it uses water instead of refrigerants to carry heat out of buildings.

The Community Design Center of Rochester, the region’s only non-profit, citizen-driven organization dedicated to promoting healthy, sustainable communities, recently appointed two new members to its Board of Directors, including Alfred State Professor of Architecture William Dean, AIA, NCARB, LEED® AP.

“Those of us in the Civil Engineering Technology Department are very proud of our seniors,” said Erin Vitale, department chair. “For many years, they have outperformed, scored well, and excelled. And this year they’ve exceeded our expectations even further when comparing their scores with peers.” 

For the third time, the Alfred State Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) Team came out on top in a national competition. 

Green was nominated by Alfred State as an exemplary online educator, who is both enthusiastic and effective in online teaching, and who can be a positive and strong advocate for online teaching in the SUNY community.

Students at Alfred State expect to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. And for two engineering students recently featured in Albany, there was the added benefit of knowing that their invention will help New Yorkers with disabilities.

SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor and longtime member of Alfred State’s Business Department Jim Grillo met March 24 with members of the college’s Honors Program to share some of his experiences in the Vietnam War.

A total of 22 sport management students were able to meet with more than 20 sports teams and organizations earlier this month at the Binghamton Senators Sports Marketing Career Fair.

In Studio Tokyo, which ran from Jan. 9-24, the students were able to explore Japanese art, cinema, animation, and digital animation.
