The Andover and Allegany County historical societies now have a new home, thanks to the support of many, including some Alfred State architecture students.

Stevens-Gupta will present in the spring 2017 lecture series of the Architecture and Design Department on Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place at the college’s Orvis Activities Center Auditorium. A reception will follow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hinkle Memorial Library, during which refreshments will be served.

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) recently hosted seven Alfred State students at the 16th annual Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP) symposium in Washington, DC.

Working alongside industry stakeholders, Alfred State offers a range of comprehensive, targeted programs that get students into their fields with the skill sets industry needs.

The college’s reputation for producing job-ready candidates continues to spread, and many employers are finding graduates from the Business Department eager and ready to contribute to their teams. 

It’s never too early to start planning for retirement, as proven by a group of Alfred State business students who recently traveled to Rochester to learn about best practices, mistakes to avoid, and more.

The students had access to more than 30 trainings on financial planning topics and were able to interact with hundreds of financial planners and financial companies from across the nation. They were also able to have formal and informal interviews with many different companies.

For his role in developing a new environmentally friendly cooling system, Dr. Jon Owejan, an assistant professor in Alfred State’s Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology Department, has recently been nominated as a Campus Connector for the 2016 Upstate Venture Ecosystem Awards.

The minor is intended to expose students to existing courses and experiential credits (internship or practicum experiences) at Alfred State that focus on and/or include leadership topics. These students will be introduced to the Social Change Model of Leadership and mentorship opportunities.

One of the reasons that Alfred State is such a terrific place for studying cyber security is the fact that students aren’t just learning the theory. They’re putting it into practice building networks, firewalls, access control lists, and more.
