Pioneer Men Down JCC in the Pool

The Alfred State College men's swimming team earned a 74-54 victory at Jamestown CC on Wednesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers fell 78-30.

Jake Giglio (Hornell) won the 400 free (24.33), Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) won the 200 IM (2:29.27), Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) won the 100 fly (58.90), and Wade Harrington (Campbell Savona) won the 500 free (6:08.77).

The relay team of Stellrecht, Tim Guarino (Cornwall), Wright, and Giglio won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.19 while the quartet combined to win the 200 free relay in 1:40.57.

Pioneers tangle with Jamestown

The Alfred State College wrestling team fell 25-16 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC match on Wednesday evening.  The Pioneers are now 2-7 on the season (1-3 WNYAC).

The Pioneers fell behind 18-0 but scored the next ten points to cut the gap.  Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) pinned Donovan Williams in 3:28 to make it 18-6 and Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) earned a 10-2 decision over Jake Hydahl at 165.

JCC clinched the match with victories at 174 and 184 to up their lead back to 25-10 before TJ Nelson (Somers) earned a forfeit win at 197 to close out the evening.

Erie CC hit 19 out of their 24 foul shots as they defeated Alfred State 64-55 in a WNYAC match-up at the Flickenger Center on Tuesday. The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-8 on the year (0-3 WNYAC) while the Lady Kats improve to 9-9 (2-1 WNYAC).

Jasmine Ball led ECC with 15 points and 13 boards while Breanna Harris also chipped in 15 (3 for 3 from three). Bianca Dennis also finished in double-figures with 14. ECC was 20 for 61 from the field, 5 for 12 from three, and 19 for 24 from the line.

God’s Gift Achiuwa led five Kat scorers with 22 points and added 11.  Tyshawn Edward chipped in 19, Isaiah Boyd had 16, Dequan Jones had 12, and Yandell Denis chipped in 10.

President Welcomes Faculty and Staff at Opening Convocation for Spring Semester

Using “imagine” as the springboard for his vision for the future of the College, Anderson reported on the progress that has been made since the autumn convocation.

Miller Qualifies for Indoor Nationals

David Miller (Elmira Southside) qualified for the NJCAA indoor track & field national championships by winning the pole vault at the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Classic.  In total, the Pioneers won four events on the day.

Miller cleared 4.40 m to win the pole vault event and punch his ticket for the indoor nationals March 4-5 at Texas Tech.  Teammate Jordan Traina (Gates Chili) was 3rd with a vault of 3.85.

Swim Team Dives into 2011

In their first competition in nearly six weeks, the Alfred State College swimming team dove into 2011 at the Erie CC Invitational.  The men's team finished 3rd out of seven with 192 points while the women were 6th with 29 points.

Peet Finishes 5th at NYS Championships

Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) led the Alfred State College wrestling team with a 5th place finish at the New York State Championships this weekend at SUNY Binghamton.  ASC finished 17th out of 19 teams in the competition with 16.5 points.

Tribunes Top Pioneers

Monroe CC led throughout as they defeated Alfred State 64-48 in a WNYAC contest Saturday afternoon at the Orvis Activities Center.  MCC improves to 10-7 on the year while ASC falls to 3-12.

Greg Williams led the Tribunes with 21 points while Andre Armstrong came off the bench connected on 13 points.  Christopher Thompson chipped in 10 for the Tribunes who led 35-19 at half.  MCC shot 38.9% from the field and connected on six of 19 three-point attempts.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell 69-66 at Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC battle that came down to the final seconds.  The Lady Pioneers had three shots in the final moments that rimmed out that would have sent the game into overtime.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) led ASC with 18 points while Amie Brooks (Pavilion) finished with 14.  Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

ASC shot just 39.1% from the field and was just 8 for 18 from the foul line.
