Athletic Department Announces 2012 Hall of Fame Class

The Alfred State athletic department will induct five new members into the hall of fame during 2012 Homecoming/Family Weekend festivities. Longtime athletic director Kathy Feldman, basketball player Larry Mulcahy, softball player Jodie Corsi, cross country & track and field athlete David Dominguez, and pole vaulter Kurt Dunn will join the Hall of Fame on October 12th.

Dorsey Named WNYAC Senior Athlete of Year

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) was recently named the Western New York Athletic Conference Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Dorsey was honored along with Genesee CC lacrosse player Connor Lattimer.

Moore Inducted into Hall of Fame

Longtime cross country and track & field coach Gary Moore was inducted into the NJCAA Division III Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past weekend. Moore was inducted in a ceremony during the 2012 Outdoor Track & Field Championships that were held at Pioneer Stadium.

Pioneer Men 3rd, Women 4th at Track Nationals

Alfred State had a strong showing at the 2012 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend. The men's team finished 3rd out of 20 teams that competed while the women were 4th out of 21 teams. Pioneer athletes won five events and earned All-American status in eight total events.

Shawn Charles (Rochester/Greece Olympia), David Miller (Elmira Southside), and Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) won individual titles. Charles won the 100 m dash in 10.79, Miller won the pole vault with a leap of 4.70 m, and Hewlett won the javelin with a toss of 51.46 m.

Mohawk Valley and Harper Win National Titles

The Mohawk Valley CC women's team and the Harper College men's team clinched NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship titles on Saturday during day three of competition at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Alfred State. MVCC ran away with the title while Harper edged up SUNY Delhi by five points.

The Mohawk Valley CC women's team continues to lead while the SUNY Delhi men's team leads after day two of the 2012 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Alfred State. MVCC has a 13 points lead over Gloucester County College after nine events scored while Delhi has a four point lead over Harper College after ten events.

Alfred State Set for NJCAA Track Nationals

Alfred State is ready to host the 2012 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day event begins on Thursday morning and runs until Saturday afternoon when the National Champion is crowned. In total 22 teams and 335 athletes are slated to compete in the competition held at Pioneer Stadium.

Dorsey Named Region III Athlete of the Week

Track and Field sprinter Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) has been named the Region III co-female athlete of the week after a solid performance at the Region III Championships of the weekend.

Track and Field sprinter Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) has been named the Region III co-female athlete of the week after a solid performance at the Region III Championships of the weekend.

Dorsey won both the 100 meters (12.78) and the 200 meters (26.27) and was also part of the 4x100 relay that finished 2nd (51.89).  For her solid effort she was named the track athlete of the meet.

Alfred State will host the 2012 NJCAA Division III Track and Field Championships this week with action beginning on Thursday and running until Saturday afternoon.
