Lady Pioneers Down NCCC

The Alfred State women's basketball team erased a 1st half deficit and defeated Niagara CCC 60-49 to register their 10th victory of the season.  The Lady Pioneers are 10-4 on the year and 2-0 in Region III Division II play.

The blue & gold trailed 29-23 at half but rallied the tie the game in the first six minutes of the 2nd half.  After trading the lead a few times the Lady Pioneers 17 to 6 run in the final eight minutes to take control of the game.

Lady Pioneers win WNYAC Opener

The Alfred State women's basketball team opened up 2013 and WNYAC play with a 58-47 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Thursday.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 9-4 (1-0 WNYAC) while the Lady Saints are now 8-4 (0-1 WNYAC).

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led all scorers with 23 points.  She also added 15 rebounds and blocked seven shots.  Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel) had a career high 14 points while Briana Meehan (Whitesville) and Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) each chipped in nine. 

Lady Pioneers Fall in Consolation Game

The Alfred State women's basketball team could not regroup after a tough loss on Saturday and fell 67-48 to Ithaca College JV in the consolation game of the Onondaga CC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers end the 2012 portion of their season with a 8-4 mark.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) was named all-tournament team after scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds.  Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) chipped in eight points.

The Lady Pioneers trailed 32-28 at halftime and never could get anything going in the 2nd.

Lady Pioneers Tripped up in OT

The Alfred State women's basketball team was tripped up in overtime, 57-54, by Sullivan County CC in the opening round of the Onondaga CC Classic.  The Lady Pioneers are now 8-3 on the year and will take on Ithaca College JV at 11:45 a.m. in the tournament consolation game.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) recorded her 7th straight double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.  She also had four blocked shots and three steals.  The Lady Pioneers had the lead prior to her fouling out with four minutes to go.

Witchella Earns National Honor

Alfred State sophomore forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has been named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week. Witchella leads the 8-2 Lady Pioneers in scoring and rebounding.

Witchella’s superior presence inside the paint anchored the Pioneers’ two wins last week. Edging Penn College of Technology 66-62, Alfred State was led by Witchella’s game-high 29 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and six blocks. The sophomore came back with 22 points and 23 rebounds as the Pioneers dismissed Finger Lakes CC 65-50.

The Alfred State women's basketball team defeated Ithaca College JV 67-61 to earn their 3rd straight victory and improve to 8-2 on the year.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) recorded her 7th straight double-double leading all scorers with 28 points (12 for 26) and 20 rebounds.  Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) finished with 11 points and five assists and Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) came off the bench and had 10 points, five assists, and five rebounds. 

Witchella and Fox Named Athletes of the Week

Witchella wins the award for the second time this winter following a solid week.  She had 29 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks and five steals in a 66-62 victory over Penn College.  She then had 22 points, 23 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in a 65-50 win over Finger Lakes CC.  She has recorded double-doubles in the Lady Pioneers last six games and has seven on the season.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) had a monster game as she recorded her sixth straight double-double as Alfred State defeated Finger Lakes CC 65-50.  With the win the Lady Pioneers are 7-2 on the season.

The Alfred State women's basketball team held Penn College to just 22 points in the 2nd half and rallied for a 66-62 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-2 on the year while the Lady Wildcats fall to 2-3.

Basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and swimmer Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Witchella had a big week for the blue & gold averaging 22.7 points and 16 rebounds per game. She also added 17 blocks and 11 steals. She had a triple-double vs. Corning with 26 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks. She was also named All-Tournament after scoring 42 points and grabbing 31 rebounds.
