The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell 69-66 at Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC battle that came down to the final seconds. The Lady Pioneers had three shots in the final moments that rimmed out that would have sent the game into overtime.
Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) led ASC with 18 points while Amie Brooks (Pavilion) finished with 14. Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
ASC shot just 39.1% from the field and was just 8 for 18 from the foul line.
Dierica Blackwell led the Saints (7-5, 2-0) with 17 points and eight assists while Darnesha Tomlinson added 14. Shairka McGill and Cassie Esler both finished with 12 each.
The Lady Pioneers (10-7, 0-2) have a few days off before heading to Erie CC on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off vs. the Lady Kats.
