Peet Finishes 5th at NYS Championships

Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) led the Alfred State College wrestling team with a 5th place finish at the New York State Championships this weekend at SUNY Binghamton.  ASC finished 17th out of 19 teams in the competition with 16.5 points.

Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) led the Alfred State College wrestling team with a 5th place finish at the New York State Championships this weekend at SUNY Binghamton.  ASC finished 17th out of 19 teams in the competition with 16.5 points.

Peet opened up competition at 149 lbs. with a pin of Donovan Williams (Jamestown CC).  In his next match he fell in a 11-3 decision to Daniel Young (Army) before rebounding with a 12-6 victory over Andre Berry (Cortland) and a pin of Dan Graff (Oneonta) to ensure placing in the tournament.  In the consolation semifinals he fell 5-2 to Shane Strumwerser (Columbia) but once again was able to rebound with a pin of Adam Hugunne (RIT) in the 5th place match.

The only other Pioneer to earn a victory in the prestigious tournament was Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) in competition in the 157 lbs. bracket.  In a consolation bracket match, Hanrahan downed Sean Seroa (RIT) 6-4.

Alfred State hits the mat again on Wednesday when they host Jamestown CC.  Action at the Orvis Activities Center is slated for 7 p.m.
