Beginning Monday, April 15, Alfred State College will be hosting a series of events and activities in celebration of Earth Week 2019.

The schedule for Alfred State’s Earth Week events is as follows:

  • Monday, April 15

“Pots and Plants” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Leadership Center Park Space. Participants will be able to paint pots and plant seeds.

However, finances are one of those things that everyone has to take care of no matter your station in life. That is why Alfred State College’s Financial Wellness Task Force (FWTF) was formed, to bring finances to the forefront of minds of the Alfred State community.

Dr. Tezak honored for military service

Dr. Edward TezakDr. Edward Tezak, a SUNY distinguished service professor emeritus of Alfred State College, was recently recognized by the Allegany County Board of Legislators for his 30-year career in the military.

Dr. Edward Tezak, a SUNY distinguished service professor emeritus of Alfred State College, was recently recognized by the Allegany County Board of Legislators for his 30-year career in the military.

Tezak, who served in the Army from 1963 to 1993, was honored before the board’s recent regular monthly meeting, and he also led those present in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gaming enthusiasts gather at Alfred State for Esports event

Alfred State College and its newly launched Esports team recently welcomed 23 students from five area high schools for a fun and informative event that focused on the growing world of competitive gaming.

Schools that attended the first Alfred State Esports Invitational included Dundee, Wellsville, BOCES Wildwood, Alfred-Almond, and Spencer-Van Etten. Participants began their day by touring the new Esports Suite in the Student Leadership Center and by playing several different games under the guidance of the college’s Esports team.

Drama Club to perform ‘Hairspray the Musical’ April 11-13

Tickets are $2 for students and $7 for general admission. To purchase tickets, please stop by the first floor of the Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus on weekdays from now through April 12 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. daily.

The Alfred State Drama Club will dazzle and delight audiences from April 11-13 with its upcoming performance of “Hairspray the Musical” at the Orvis Activities Center.

Hairspray shares the story of Tracy, a young girl from Baltimore, whose goal is to make it onto the Corny Collins Show to display her talents and integrate the white and black communities on national television in a 1960s segregated Baltimore. Alfred State's production of Hairspray stars Katie Brooks, a digital media and animation major from Walton, as Tracy Turnblad.

Pioneers volunteer out-of-state during spring break

As students who are familiar with hands-on learning, they jumped right into the tasks they were assigned on day one," said Amy Miller.

While spring break is typically considered a time for students to relax and recharge, for Alfred State College (ASC) Pioneers, it’s an opportunity to make a difference.

During their recent spring break, a number of ASC students volunteered for one of two out-of-state civic engagement trips in an effort to help those in need.

Alfred State College is delighted to announce that comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member Michael Che will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the Orvis Activities Center.

Classes for the new Bachelor of Technology degree program in agricultural entrepreneurship will begin in the fall of 2019. This new program is designed to provide tomorrow’s agricultural entrepreneurs with the skills to make local agriculture economically viable through the application of traditional production practices and the development of value-added (VA) products.

More than 100 outstanding scientific projects by students from 13 area school districts were featured in Alfred State’s 20th annual Regional Science and Technology Fair.

Participating districts included Addison, Alfred-Almond, Archbishop Walsh STCS, Bolivar-Richburg, Cassadaga Valley, Friendship, Hinsdale, Hornell, Houghton Academy, Lima Christian School, Portville, Prattsburgh, and St. Ann’s Academy.

Schools competing this year included State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology at Alfred, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America.

The 2019 SkillsUSA New York State Leadership and Skills Conference Postsecondary Championship was held on Alfred State College’s Wellsville campus on Saturday, March 23.

A total of 54 students from three schools competed against each other in one of the nation’s most prestigious showcases of career and technical aptitude. Schools competing this year included State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology at Alfred, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America. All competitions took place on the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville.
