Blake Barit exhibit on display at Llewellyn Gallery

“Getting to meet an artist on campus is a privilege. I like to see a variety of things. Seeing the manipulation of colors and the way that he puts it in patterns has me trying to figure out how he managed to do that.”

Ethe Hemphill

Blake Barit, an experimental filmmaker, educator, and researcher, is displaying his structural film exhibit, Index of a Painted Film, in the Bret Llewellyn Gallery located on the third floor of the Engineering Building.

The exhibit explores the materiality of analog film work by showing painted film in multiple ways, offering the viewer different methods of experiencing the work. The exhibit invites viewers to commune with filmmaking and the tactile wonder of material process.

Pioneer PROfiles - Sofia Baldwin

“Four years ago, I was too scared to talk to anyone, so I started dipping my toes in things on campus and it helped me come out of my shell a lot. It has helped me with my leadership and social abilities as well.”

Sofia Baldwin

Sofia Baldwin (Troy, NY) broke out of her shell at Alfred State. She entered college as a shy digital media and animation major and through her experiences in and out of the classroom she is ready to take center stage.

“I chose Alfred State because it was affordable, relatively close to home, and it had the major I was looking for. I received a scholarship as well.”

Alumni Profile - Austin Clay - Gaming Connections

“We went from playing on MacBooks to playing on nice PCs in a couple years which was impressive. It was fun for me, but it was a lot of work form all of us to get to that point. It proved to me that what Professor Neuberger said in class was true, if you put the time in, you are going to get the results you want.”

Austin Clay '20

Connections and lessons learned at Alfred State College has helped Austin Clay, ’20 to a career that he loves. The friends he made during his college days along with a lesson taught by Professor Larry Neuberger still motivate him to this day.

He always would sit down with me and explain to me that if you put the work in you could get the results you wanted. I really follow that philosophy. He was always letting me know that I needed to focus on certain things and get things done. It was always motivating me.”

Alfred State spotlights student creativity

"This was a great opportunity for our students to work on a project like this. The artwork looks great on the bus shelters and we look forward to collaborating on similar projects around campus in the future.”

Visitors and the college community can now enjoy student art outdoors in both Alfred and Wellsville as ordinary bus shelters have been transformed into mini art galleries. The new attractions are thanks to an initiative at Alfred State College (ASC) entitled ART @ ASC that began as part of the inauguration celebration of Dr. Steve Mauro as president this academic year.

Bus shelters near the front entrances now feature “Home of the Blue and Gold” designed by Andrew Hvisdak (Orchard Park) and “Dandelion Breeze” by Arly Marin-Leon (Jeffersonville).
