Alfred State celebrates years of service milestones

During the Alfred State’s annual end of year celebration, the college celebrated numerous members of the community for milestones in their years of service.

Northland campus holds Commencement ceremony

Alfred State honored more than seventy students at Commencement ceremonies held students at the Northland campus in Buffalo. Director of Special Student Programs Leslie Buckley presided over the event. 

Biotechniques class visits BioSpherix

“This is another example of how Alfred State connects the classroom to real world experiences. Students got the opportunity to make connections in their field while working hands-on with the latest technologies.”

During the spring semester, Dr. Steve Bauer took his Biotechniques class to visit BioSpherix (Parish, NY). BioSpherix is known for their biosafety cabinets.

BioSpherix was founded over 30 years ago, after their founder created the first device to control oxygen levels in an incubator. The company, through the development of the Xvivo System, is able to safely engineer new tracheal implants for small children born without a trachea.

Holly Chase earns CPA licensure

“These designations allow me to bring my experience into the classroom. I am working to introduce new courses that are in demand in the industry. We have several employers who consistently seek out our students for both internships and job opportunities.”

Alfred State Assistant Professor Holly Chase has completed the necessary requirements to become a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York.

Previously, Chase had earned the Institute of Management Accountant’s Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) designation. 

“These designations allow me to bring my experience into the classroom,” commented Chase. “I am working to introduce new courses that are in demand in the industry. We have several employers who consistently seek out our students for both internships and job opportunities.”

Alfred State celebrates Mary Huntington's 100th Birthday

Mary Huntington came to Alfred in 1964 when her husband David was named the seventh President of the college. She has continually displayed her love for the college, the students, and the community. She is a strong presence not only on campus but in the nearby community.

The local community gathered at the Lake Lodge to celebrate Mary Huntington's 100th birthday. Huntington walked in thinking she was attending a end-of-year celebration only to find friends and families present to celebrate her upcoming birthday.

Mary Huntington came to Alfred in 1964 when her husband David was named the seventh President of the college. She has continually displayed her love for the college, the students, and the community. She is a strong presence not only on campus but in the nearby community.

Southern Italy Tours for Southern Tier Students

“Such an experience develops a fully evolved worldview for students. This is important because they will soon be employed and interacting with a wide diversity of people and cultures. While Sant’Anna Institute and Alfred State College (ASC) are separated by 4,500 miles, their approach to applied learning and hands-on experiences are very closely aligned. Both schools are also located in scenic small towns but in strikingly different locales. Leaders of the two schools recently signed extended partnership agreements in the institute’s hometown of Sorrento, a village perched atop hundred-foot cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Naples.

Alfred State College honored over 1,000 eligible graduates at the 112th commencement ceremony held at Pioneer Stadium. Graduates celebrated with faculty and staff along with their families and friends.

In lieu of a speech, Alfred State President Dr. Steve Mauro shared a video that allowed graduating students to thank those that were influential in their journey at the college. View the video

Visitors and the college community can now enjoy student art outdoors in both Alfred and Wellsville as ordinary bus shelters have been transformed into mini art galleries. The new attractions are thanks to an initiative at Alfred State College (ASC) entitled ART @ ASC that began as part of the inauguration celebration of Dr. Steve Mauro as president this academic year.

Bus shelters near the front entrances now feature “Home of the Blue and Gold” designed by Andrew Hvisdak (Orchard Park) and “Dandelion Breeze” by Arly Marin-Leon (Jeffersonville).

Baseball team to host AMCC Championships

The Alfred State baseball team has earned the right to host the 2023 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) for the first time in program history. The tournament begins on May 11.

Saldenha-Raye honored with the Norman R. McConney Jr. Award for Student Excellence

Alfred State student Makala Rachel Saldenha-Raye (Brooklyn, NY – Individual Studies) was one of 46 SUNY EOP students honored with the Norman R. McConney, Jr. Award for Student Excellence. The award, now celebrating its third class of awardees, recognizes outstanding EOP students for their academic merit and strength in overcoming significant personal obstacles throughout their lives.
