“Our classes are so interactive. We are always spending time together in the studio, and we collaborate on almost everything. We can go from Wellsville town planning and design all the way up to our thesis projects that combine a variety of topics.”

Alfred felt like her hometown. “It is pretty much the same environment as where I grew up and I felt really connected here. I was able to study both architecture and interior design. It was a perfect school to get experience in both areas.”

Meet the Students - John Snyder

“I chose Alfred State after looking at a bunch of different architecture schools around the area and what really drew me here was their technical background and their value in the field. I talked to different architects and engineers and all of them said the same thing. Alfred graduates were ready to go when they get put into any project and everyone was satisfied with their work.”

John Snyder

John Snyder (Buffalo, NY) has raised his knowledge and experiences at Alfred State as he builds towards a career as an architect. Along his journey he has taken various paths to fly towards success.

Architecture students present design concepts to Village of Angelica

“Projects like this give our students a real-world experience. In eight short weeks, each group worked together to develop plans from what they had learned and seen in Angelica. The students did an excellent job taking what they have learned in the classroom and applying it to a client.”

Matt DiRado

ASC Architecture Professor

Alfred State College (ASC) architecture students in Design Studio 5 presented comprehensive plans to reimagine the Village of Angelica. Two groups of fifteen students worked for eight weeks and presented their concepts and ideas to citizens in Angelica.

Alfred State AIAS Chapter hosts panel discussion

"As an emerging professional speaking with architects in the field, understanding the economic side of projects is the most prominent skill missing from a graduate's kit of knowledge."

Jack Christie

President of the Alfred State AIAS Chapter.

Alfred State College's American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Chapter recently hosted a panel-style discussion entitled “The Economics of Architecture.”

The conversation helped bridge the gap of economic knowledge between students and professionals. The discussion served as a vessel of communication between architects, clients, and contractors and encouraged them to express their views on how economics are dealt with in a building project.

Meet the Students - Vina Pham

“I get excited seeing my friends. It is so comfortable being able to know that you always have people you know around campus. Alfred is a tight-knit community.”

Vina Pham (Rochester, NY) took the recommendation of her siblings to attend Alfred State. Alfred State’s authenticity and the connections she has made has helped her be successful in her architecture and interior design studies.

“Both of my sisters attended Alfred State and they recommended the programs here. I just like the lifestyle and the culture they have here.”

Meet the Students - Katie Petix

“The way they run this program is different. We are all together most of the time. You are with your peers, and you can learn and grow with them.”

Katie Petix

Katie Petix (Bloomfield, NY) started her college journey in performing arts but shifted her focus to creative arts and transferred to Alfred State to build her future in architecture.

“I have been a performing musician my entire life and went to school to study music. I was messing with different software and shifted more into creative arts. I have been building for my whole life, following my dad who is a structural engineer. I liked the technical side a little bit better.”

Architecture students travel to Montreal

"The opportunity to lead my fellow students on an international trip was a priceless learning experience that broadened our architectural mindset and strengthened the architecture-student community at Alfred State."

Jack Christie

Alfred State AIAS President

Alfred State College's American Institute for Architecture Students (AIAS) chapter traveled to Montreal during the college’s recent mini break to visit several notable sites and experience new cultures.

"International travel is an essential part of any architect's education," said Assistant Professor of Architecture and AIAS Faculty Advisor Kevin Hofmann. "Experiencing new places, especially with the developing mindset of a student, inevitably leads to fresh ideas, greater empathy for others, and insatiable curiosity."

Bob Pahl Sketching Award recipients announced

The honor began in 2012 and is named for Bob Pahl, a Boston-area architect, who graduated from Alfred State in 1981 with a degree in architectural engineering technology. The awards were presented this year to Vina Pham, Lauren Fisher, and Katie Petix.
