Platt and Rusek Earn All-American Honors

Jedadiah Platt (Appleton/Barker) and Jordan Rusek (Buffalo/Williamsville East) earned NJCAA DIII All-American honors following their top-15 finishes at the National Championships. Platt and Rusek were the top two runners for Alfred State all season long.

Platt finished the National Championship in 10th place to earn 2nd team honors.  He finished the five mile course in 28:56 (average of 5:48 per mile).  Earlier in the season he raced to 1st team All-Region honors with a 5th place finish.

Eight Football Players Named All-Region

Eight members of the Alfred State football team have been named All-Region following the Pioneers 5-4 season. The blue & gold finished the year as the runner-up in Region III.

Four Lady Pioneers Named All-Region

Four members of the Alfred State women's soccer team have been named All-Region. Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond), Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond), Kelsey Murray (Greece Olympia) and Maura Tuffey (Albany/Holy Names) were all 1st team selections.

Witchella and Thone Named Athletes of the Week

Basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and swimmer Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Witchella had a big week for the blue & gold averaging 22.7 points and 16 rebounds per game. She also added 17 blocks and 11 steals. She had a triple-double vs. Corning with 26 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks. She was also named All-Tournament after scoring 42 points and grabbing 31 rebounds.


Pioneers Down Mustangs

The Alfred State men's basketball team got great bench play as they defeated Monroe College JV 62-55 in the consolation game of the Alfred State Tournament.  The Pioneers are now 3-3 on the season heading into the Thanksgiving break.

29 of the Pioneers 62 points came from the bench with Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) leading the way with 17 on 7 for 9 shooting on his way to being named to the All-Tournament team.  Adam Fezza (Southhampton) finished with eight points and six boards while Cristian Santana (Harlem/) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Lady Pioneers Run out of Gas

Playing for the second time in less than eight hours, the Alfred State women's basketball team ran out of gas in the 2nd half and fell 73-66 to Fulton Montgomery CC.  The Pioneers fall to 5-2 on the year while FMCC improves to 7-0.

With the game tied at 50-50, Fulton Montgomery went on a 15 to 2 run to put the game out of reach to open up a 13-point lead.  The Pioneers could not muster the offense to fully get back in the game.

Pioneers Compete at NYS Championships

The Alfred State wrestling team finished T-18th at the annual NYS Collegiate Championships held at Cornell on Saturday.  The tournament features wrestlers from every college, NCAA DI, DIII, and NJCAA, in New York that has a wrestling program.

Kyle Reynolds (Pine Valley) was the lone Pioneer to earn a win.  He defeated Patryck Kopczynski (Hunter) 10-2 in a consolation match in the 197 lb. weight class.

The blue & gold finished with 2 points on the day.  Cornell won the team title with 183.5 points on the day.

Pioneers Hang Tough but Fall to Rockland

The Alfred State men's basketball team slowed down Rockland CC's high octane offense but the Hawks were able to pull out a 60-51 victory in a 1st round Alfred State Tournament contest.  The Pioneers are now 2-3 on the year.

Alfred was able to slow down the pace in the 1st half and held a 25-20 advantage at the break.  Rockland heated up in the 2nd half and went on a 16 to 4 run to take the lead.  The Pioneers threatened but could never gain the lead back.

Lady Pioneers Suffer First Loss

The Alfred State women's basketball team lost a back and forth contest 75-71 to Westchester CC in the Alfred State Tournament.  The game featured seven ties and ten lead changes.

Alfred led 68-66 with just under a minute left in the contest.  Westchester's Hayley Awerdick drew a foul and hit the first foul shot.  Her second shot rattled out and Neilia McKenzie grabbed the rebound and scored her lone basket of the game to give WCC the lead for good.

Thone Leads Swimmers at Herkimer

Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) won three events to lead the Alfred State swim team at the Herkimer CCC Fall Invitational. The Pioneer men finished 4th while the women finished 5th in the competition.

Thone won the 50 free (27.18), the 100 free (59.74), and the 200 butterfly (2:34.08) to pace the Lady Pioneers.  Christy Dodd (Windsor) was 2nd in the 200 free (2:16.84) and the 200 back (2:30.05), and 4th in the 100 free (1:02.83).
