Lady Pioneers Run out of Gas

Playing for the second time in less than eight hours, the Alfred State women's basketball team ran out of gas in the 2nd half and fell 73-66 to Fulton Montgomery CC.  The Pioneers fall to 5-2 on the year while FMCC improves to 7-0.

Playing for the second time in less than eight hours, the Alfred State women's basketball team ran out of gas in the 2nd half and fell 73-66 to Fulton Montgomery CC.  The Pioneers fall to 5-2 on the year while FMCC improves to 7-0.

With the game tied at 50-50, Fulton Montgomery went on a 15 to 2 run to put the game out of reach to open up a 13-point lead.  The Pioneers could not muster the offense to fully get back in the game.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the way with 22 points, 19 rebounds, and four blocks.  Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) added 12 points and 14 rebounds and Briana Meehan (Whitesville) chipped in 11 points and nine boards.  Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) and Helena Covington (Elmira Free) each chipped in seven.

Takima Lucky led the Lady Raiders with 31 points and 12 boards while Kassandra Flowers finished with 21.  Cheryl Osborne added 10 points and Sherice Gayle pulled down 12 boards.

Alfred shot just 28% from the field on the game while FMCC shot 37.3%.  Alfred held a huge 72 to 50 rebounding advantage including a 37 to 18 edge on the offensive glass.

The Pioneers have the Thanksgiving week off but return to action on Nov. 26th when they host Penn College of Technology at 6 p.m.
