Men’s Basketball tips off season Saturday

The Alfred State College men's basketball team will tip off their 2007-08 season on Saturday when they take part in the Monroe CC Classic.  The Pioneers will begin their 30-game schedule with a 6 p.m. contest with Rockland CC.

Lady Pioneers earn #1 seed

For the second year in a row the Alfred State College volleyball team will enter the Region III Division III Tournament as the #1 seed.  The Lady Pioneers finished the regular season with a 30-4 overall record and a 30-2 mark in Region III Division III play.

Doorley wins 100th, Lady Spikers 4-0 at Corning

Alfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley won his 100th match at Alfred State as the Lady Pioneers were 4-0 at the Corning CC Invitational.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, are 30-4 (30-2 in Region III Division III play) on the season heading into the postseason.

Lackawanna too much for A-State

Lackawanna College got contributions from their offense, defense, and special teams as they improved to 6-2 (2-2 NFC) with an 84-20 victory over Alfred State at Maple City Park on Saturday.

Men finish 4th, Women 7th at Regionals

The Alfred State College men's cross country team finished 4th out of eight teams and the women finished 7th at the Region III Championships held at SUNY Delhi on Saturday.  The men scored a 118 and the women scored a 159.

Five Pioneers Named to All-WNYAC Baseball Team

Five members of the Alfred State College fall baseball team have been named All-WNYAC following the Pioneers 10-6 season.  Kevin Underhill (Somers) was a 1st team selection, Jeff Benchich (Millbrook), Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas), and Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was named to the 2nd team, and Jeff Paul (Horseheads) was named honorable mention.

The Alfred State College volleyball team remained ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The Lady Pioneers are currently 26-4 on the season heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Agricultural Skills Day held at Alfred State College in October.  Students from Alfred-Almond; Cassadaga Valley;

Center (Erie CCB); Letchworth; LoGuidice Educational Center (Fredonia); Olean

The Alfred State College volleyball team downed Jamestown CC (17-30, 30-24, 30-16, 30-19) in the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals but fell to Genesee CC (31-33, 28-30, 25-30) in the finals.

Corey Metcalfe scored with under ten seconds remaining to lift #9 Finger Lakes CC to a 2-1 victory over #8 Alfred State in a Region III Division III Tournament 1st round contest.  The Lakers improve to 11-8 and move on to the quarterfinals to take on #1 SUNY Cobleskill while the Pioneers end their season with a 7-7-2 record.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team fell 5-1 to SUNY Delhi in a 1st round Region III Division III contest on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Pioneers end their season 7-8-1 while the Lady Broncos advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.

The Alfred State College football team never could get their offense going and fell 24-6 to Erie CC in a Northeast Football Conference contest played in very windy conditions in Orchard Park. ECC clinches a spot in the Region III Championship game and improves to 5-2 (3-2 NFC) on the year while ASC falls to 3-5 (0-3 NFC).

Alfred State College sophomore wide receiver Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) has been named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week and the Region III Male Athlete of the Week.  Septh helped the Pioneers to a 27-6 victory over Berean Institute on Saturday.
