Lady Spikers fall in WNYAC Finals

The Alfred State College volleyball team downed Jamestown CC (17-30, 30-24, 30-16, 30-19) in the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals but fell to Genesee CC (31-33, 28-30, 25-30) in the finals.

The Alfred State College volleyball team downed Jamestown CC (17-30, 30-24, 30-16, 30-19) in the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals but fell to Genesee CC (31-33, 28-30, 25-30) in the finals.

The Lady Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, fall to 26-4 on the season.

In the semi's, Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) led the way with 18 kills, 11 digs, four aces, and three blocks.  Brianne McMahon (Buffalo/Sweet Home) added 27 digs and 15 kills while Elaina Braun (Waterloo) passed out 43 assists and was credited with six kills.  Natalie Gregory (Iroquois) finished with 23 digs.

In the finals, Shannon Jablonski (Cheektowaga) led the way with 11 kills and 11 digs.  McMahon finished with 25 digs, nine kills, and four aces while Georgia Buchholz (Andover) finished with 14 digs, nine kills, and three blocks.  Braun passed out 30 assists and picked up eight digs.

The Lady Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they play in the ten-team Corning CC Invitational.  A-State opens up play at 9 a.m.
