Alfred State College joins campuses nationwide in effort to be “Voter Friendly”

Today, Alfred State College is one of over 200 campuses in 37 states and the District of Columbia designated as a “Voter Friendly Campus.”

Today, Alfred State College is one of over 200 campuses in 37 states and the District of Columbia designated as a “Voter Friendly Campus.”

This initiative, led by national nonpartisan organizations Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project (CVP) and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, held participating institutions accountable for planning and implementing practices that encourage their students to register and vote in 2020 elections and in the coming years.

ASC alum promoted to project executive at LeChase Construction

LeChase Construction Services, LLC has announced that Alfred State College alum Laird Updyke has been promoted to project executive in the Syracuse office.

LeChase Construction Services, LLC has announced that Alfred State College alum Laird Updyke has been promoted to project executive in the Syracuse office.

Updyke earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management and an associate degree in architectural technology, both from Alfred State.

According to an article on www.MyTwinTiers.com, “The scholarship is geared toward students from a marginalized population who have successfully completed their first semester in criminal justice at SUNY Corning Community College or SUNY Alfred State or students enrolled in the police academy programs at CCC or Alfred.”

Alfred State College is proud to announce that two of its students, Emily Clough and Errol Mars, have been named recipients of the Vanguard Award for the 2020-2021 academic year.

This honor recognizes outstanding post-secondary-level students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) programs that prepare them for careers that are not traditional for their gender. A nontraditional career is an occupation where one sex comprises fewer than 25 percent of the total employed.

The Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc. contributes to student success at Alfred State College through many different forms of support, including providing much-need scholarship assistance.

The Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc. contributes to student success at Alfred State College through many different forms of support, including providing much-need scholarship assistance.

For the spring 2021 semester, the Educational Foundation provided $59,500 to support students financially through scholarship awards. This assistance has positively impacted 114 Alfred State students, who are receiving one of the following scholarships: Academic Distinction, Phi Theta Kappa External Transfer, Transfer, or Vocational Excellence.

This grant will benefit ASC’s heavy equipment operations program, as well as the college’s Doc Bruce Fundraising Campaign that aims to bolster the construction management program.

Alfred State College (ASC) is pleased to announce that it has received a $50,000 grant from the National Fuel Gas Company Foundation. This grant will benefit ASC’s heavy equipment operations program, as well as the college’s Doc Bruce Fundraising Campaign that aims to bolster the construction management program.

The grant is divided into two years, with $25,000 being used in the first year to acquire through lease new models of an excavator and a backhoe that will provide heavy equipment operations students with tools they’ll use on the job.

Some quick thinking and swift action by five Alfred State College students recently led to the rescue of a man from the icy waters of the Genesee River in Wellsville.

Owen Brewster and Jack Derby were the first to hear the cries for help at around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. The two motorsports technology students were working on Derby’s vehicle behind the Freshman Automotive Building on the School of Applied Technology campus when they heard what Brewster initially thought may have been a bird.
