History Made: Volleyball team wins AMCC to advance to NCAA Tournament

The Alfred State volleyball team won the AMCC Championship 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) over Penn State Behrend. The victory clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Alfred State volleyball team won the AMCC Championship 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) over Penn State Behrend. The victory clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Pioneers, the #1 seed in the tournament, complete AMCC play with a perfect 9-0 record. In matches at home the team was 13-0. The team is 21-6 overall and will become the first team in school history to play in the NCAA’s riding a sixteen-game winning streak.

The Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc., a private foundation representing faculty, staff, and friends of Alfred State College (ASC), recently welcomed two new board members, Kristopher Green and John Sadowski.

Green, the Human Resource Director at Jones Memorial Hospital, will serve on the property and by-laws committees. 

University Police and Athletic Department to participate in 3,000 pushup challenge

The Alfred State College University Police are teaming up with the ASC Athletic Department and the Alfred Fire Department to participate in the 3,000 pushup challenge.

The Alfred State College University Police are teaming up with the ASC Athletic Department and the Alfred Fire Department to participate in the 3,000 pushup challenge.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:20 p.m. members of these three groups will meet at Pioneer Stadium to do pushups to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The pushup challenge is one of multiple monthly Facebook challenges that St. Jude puts on to raise funds. Donations from fundraisers like this ensure families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food.

Histed helps organize Junior Fireman’s Camp

Alfred State College University Police Officer Joe Histed was instrumental in putting together the Allegany County Junior Fireman’s Camp. The event was part of a Leadership Allegany project and he enlisted Dispatcher Jamie Dennis-Howe to assist with the event.

President’s Society Dinner honors Bethesda Foundation

The Bethesda Foundation was honored for their continued support of Alfred State College at the President’s Society Dinner. The Foundation was awarded the President’s Medallion.

The Bethesda Foundation of Hornell is a non-profit charitable organization devoted to the funding and support of health-related projects and scholarships for the Hornell community. It was created in 1986 after the Bethesda Hospital closed in 1985.
