Clark, Ford, and Cook honored with Advising Award

A trio of Alfred State faculty members were honored with the Excellence in Faculty Advising Award during the 40th annual Honors Convocation.

A trio of Alfred State faculty members were honored with the Excellence in Faculty Advising Award during the 40th annual Honors Convocation. Megan Clark (Assistant Professor Nursing), Nicholas Ford (Instructor Civil Engineering Technology), and Greg Cook (Instructor Electrical, Machine Tool, and Welding) were honored for going above and beyond to positively impact a student’s college experience.

Bloxsom and Ross receive Student Advocate Award

Alfred State Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Business Department Mark Bloxsom and Lecturer in the Physical and Life Sciences Department Jennifer Ross were honored with the Student Advocate Award during the 40th annual Honors Convocation.

Student Senate President Kaytlinn Cattrell presented the award that is given to college employees that have gone above and beyond to help students be successful at Alfred State College.

Students credit Bloxsom for going above and beyond, for being a tremendous help, and for making constant effort to keep students engaged.

A special guest visited the first-year CNC Manufacturing and Machining lab as the spring semester wound down. First year student Derek Correa reconnected with classmates, his professor Jeff Hellwig, and Alfred State administration during his visit to thank them for their support of his recovery.

Correa was assaulted in October and has faced months of recovery. A witness immediately reported the attack and University Police responded, rendered aid, and made arrests of four suspects from Elmira who were outsiders to the ASC community.

Alfred State College holds 113th Commencement Ceremony

Alfred State College honored approximately 1,000 eligible graduates at the 113th commencement ceremony held at Pioneer Stadium. Graduates celebrated with faculty and staff along with their families and friends.

Wolfe wraps up season with a 12th place finish at IHSA Nationals

“What a great way to finish her first year competing at the collegiate level. Ashley had a great season, and I am excited to see what she can do during the rest of her riding career here at Alfred State.”

Alfred State first-year student Ashley Wolfe (Painted Post, NY) earned a 12th place finish at the IHSA National Championships held in Mill Spring, NC.

Wolfe qualified for the Back on Track High Point Rider Competition by being the Hi Point Open Rider for the region. She competed with riders from all over the country including Ohio State, Iowa State, and Penn State.

Alfred State campus investments reaching $200 million

Three major projects of note are a total re-invention of the Agriculture Science Building, improvements to all campus roads, and updated underground infrastructure. Over a one-decade period 2016-2026, Alfred State investments will surpass $200 million.

Alfred State College (ASC) is building a bigger and better campus to accommodate more students in consecutive fall cohorts. Construction investments will ramp up again this summer to improve and expand campus amenities. 

Three major projects of note are a total re-invention of the Agriculture Science Building, improvements to all campus roads, and updated underground infrastructure. Over a one-decade period 2016-2026, Alfred State investments will surpass $200 million. Plus, several projects are already completed for students to enjoy.

Business classes present plans for improvements to mail services on campus

"Students had to work together to research and analyze the issue from multiple angles to determine exactly what the problem was and then propose possible solutions to administrators to improve it. For many students this was their first time working on a real problem and project of this magnitude. They were especially excited that the project was something tangible that could improve life here at Alfred State.”

Alfred State students in a pair of upper-level business classes presented to a panel of campus administrators and faculty on proposed changes to improve the college’s mail services on campus.

Peer tutoring continues to receive support from the Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc.

Since the 2010-2011 academic year, the Foundation has provided funding to the college’s peer tutoring program. As a result, the program has fulfilled more than 2,482 student requests, providing more than 14,351 hours of support.

Peer tutoring services at Alfred State continue to benefit from the ongoing support of the Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc. The generous annual donation of $6,500 has helped students achieve success and continue towards their academic goals.

Nutrition classes raises money for Community Needs Hub

“Alfred State has put forth a mission of enhancing learning through hands-on experiences while engaging students to be involved in a caring community. As a Nutrition course, I feel it’s our responsibility to bring awareness to food insecurity and support efforts to combat it. My students had the opportunity to participate in organizing, designing, selling, and preparing meals.”

Students in a pair of Nutrition classes taught by Jennifer Ross sold Stearn’s chicken barbecue meals to raise money for the Alfred State Community Needs Hub. The group raised $447 to be used to help other students suffering from food insecurity.

Smiles and high fives highlight Special Olympics Track & Field event

“What a wonderful day. The weather was beautiful, and we had record numbers of our student-athletes helping run the events. This event gets better every year, and it is by far one of my favorite days of the school year. The smiles and high fives are the best part of the day.”

Over three hundred students from thirteen local school districts enjoyed a picture-perfect day at the Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular held at Alfred State.

Students participated in an Olympic style march into the stadium and recited the Special Olympics oath before competing in both running and field events. Each athlete participated in a running event ranging from a 25m run or walk all the way up to a 400m run or walk. The athletes also had a choice of participating in a jumping or a throwing event.
