SUNY Chancellor King Celebrates Start of the Veterans Enrollment and Support Internship Program From Alfred State

"Our student veteran enrollment and support intern will bring great insight to our enrollment team as we interact with veterans that are pursuing educational opportunities. They will be able to provide recent firsthand experience and answer many of their questions based on their own experiences. We are proud of our student veterans on campus."

Eight students spend spring break working with Habitat for Humanity

“We were able to help paint another house with Monisha and learn her story. Seeing her face when she saw all the walls up on her house made the whole trip worth it.”

Eight Alfred State College (ASC) students and a staff member spent spring break working with Habitat for Humanity in Myrtle Beach, SC. The trip was part of the Alternative Spring Break service initiative coordinated through the Center for Civic Leadership.

Alfred State Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) instructor Amanda Snyder received the Home Builders Institute’s Shirley McVay Wiseman Award for Exceptional Promise. Snyder received the award during the National Association of Home Builders Institute’s (NAHB) annual conference.

This award is presented annually to a HBI graduate who has overcome challenge, become an inspiration to other young women, and holds exceptional promise for the nation’s building industry.

Students of Color Leadership Conference highlights Black History Month programming

The sixth annual Students of Color Leadership Conference highlighted a month of programming at Alfred State College (ASC) celebrating Black History Month. The daylong conference organized by the Cultural Life Center (CLC) featured guest speakers, panels, music, and food.

Alfred State financial aid experts on the new FAFSA

“We seek every dollar to apply to our already very affordable cost of attendance. As soon as a student is accepted and we receive their FAFSA, our team goes to work to create a personalized financial aid plan to include federal, state, and local resources.”

The redesigned FAFSA has launched and the financial aid experts at Alfred State College (ASC) are offering increased support for families who have questions on the updated form.

An incredible 77 percent of newly enrolled Alfred State students are eligible for all SUNY tuition costs to be paid by federal or state funds through the Federal Pell, NYS TAP Grant, and the NYS Excelsior Scholarship. ASC counselors work as advocates for families to help find the most funds including up to $20,000 over four years in merit-based awards from the college.

Charles Craig was honored for his service and support of Alfred State College at the annual President’s Society Dinner held at the Lake Lodge. Craig was awarded the President’s Medallion.

Craig has served as a member of the College Council since Nov. 16, 2004. His service and advocacy for the College has helped guide the growth and development of the College. 

Alfred State celebrates Homecoming

“We had a ton of events from football games to talent shows to wrestling open practice. You name it and we had it this weekend. It is amazing to have people come to campus to see the great things going on here. Thanks to all our friends, our families, and alumni for showing up this weekend and participating in the fun.”

US News ranks Alfred State No. 1 thanks to student outcomes and faculty excellence

Alfred State College (ASC) once again ranked as the No. 1 SUNY Regional College by US News and climbed to No. 8 among all public and private regional colleges across 11 states and the District of Columbia. The latest US News & World Report rankings again confirmed excellence at Alfred State in an analysis of hundreds of regional colleges across the nation.

Former ASC College Council Chair Pat Fogarty passes away

“My life and those of thousands of Alfred State College students, faculty, and staff are all richer having been influenced and inspired by the life’s work of Pat Fogarty. For more than three decades, it has been her vision and desire to help others that catapulted Alfred State, Allegany County, and all of Western New York forward as she took a genuine interest in helping those in need, finding ways to improve their lives and empower generations to take the next step to a brighter future.”

Appointed Alfred State College Council Chair in 1993, first appointed Allegany County District Attorney in 1983, and an Assistant Public Defender since 2002, Patricia “Pat” Fogarty passed away after decades of leadership and public service to the Southern Tier of New York. There will be a private funeral and burial held by close friends in the coming days.  Later, a celebration of Pat’s life will be arranged, with more information to follow in the coming weeks.
