Baseball splits with Corning

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III doubleheader versus Corning CC on Thursday at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Red Barons took the opener 4-0 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-3.

Steve Hughes tossed a complete game six hitter to lead Corning to the game one victory.  He sturck out three and walked none.  Mike Dipierro led the Red Baron offensive attack with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day while Dan Telehany was 2 for 4.

Pioneers Earn Win & Tie at Lackawanna

The Alfred State College baseball team began the Northern portion of their season with a pair of extra innings contests at Lackawanna College.  The Pioneers won the opener 7-5 in eight innings while the nightcap finished tied at 4-4 after eight innings.

Pioneers fall in final Florida contest

The Alfred State College baseball team fell 8-6 to Miami (OH) Hamilton to wrap up their annual trip to Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers finish the trip with a 5-7 record.

Alfred took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st but Hamilton rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning and never gave up the lead.

Baseball drops a pair of one-run games

The Alfred State College baseball team lost a pair of one-run contests on Friday in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers fell 7-6 to Camden County (NJ) CC in nine innings and then fell 11-10 to Prairie State (IL) College.  The Pioneers are now 5-6 on the season.

Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) singled home the tying run in the 7th inning to send the contest versus Camden County into extra innings.  In the top of the 9th, Camden capitalized on a throwing error to score the winning run.

The Warriors jumped out to a 10-0 lead but the Pioneers mounted a rally.  In the 7th inning, ASC cut the lead to 11-5 and had the bases loaded before Ridgewater closed the game with two strikeouts.

Blue and Gold Run Win Streak to Four

After dropping their first three games on their southern trip to Cocoa, FL the Alfred State College baseball team has run their current winning streak to four games with two victories on Tuesday.  The Blue and Gold downed Minot State (ND) Bottineau 6-4 and then got the offense going with a 13-3 victory over Riverland (MN) CC.

Kevin Underhill (Somers) led the Pioneers 11-hit attack in the win over Minot State.  He finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) finished the game 1 for 4 with three stolen bases.

Benchich tosses shutout

Jeff Benchich (Millbrook) tossed a complete game four-hit shutout as Alfred State scored two runs in the 7th inning to down Illinois Valley 2-0 on Monday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 2-3 on the young 2008 season.

Benchich struck out nine and walked just two as he evened up his record at 1-1 on the year.

Pioneers Register First Win of the Spring

The Alfred State College baseball team recorded their first win of the 2008 season on Sunday afternoon in a 5-4 victory over Ridgewater (MN) CC.  The team is now 1-3 on the year.

Craig Koznikowski (N. Tonawanda) tossed a complete game four-hitter to earn the victory.  He allowed four earned runs while striking out five and walking three.

Derek Speaker (Starpoint) led the offense with a 2 for 3, 2 RBI performance while Kevin Underhill (Somers) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Bryan Lance (Chenango Forks) was 1 for 2 with two runs scored.

Foster fires a 3-hitter but Blue and Gold fall

Andrew Foster (Clarkson, ONT.) allowed just three hits in six innings of work but Alfred State managed just four hits in a 3-1 loss to the University of Connecticut - Avery Point in Cocoa, FL on Friday.

Foster allowed two earned runs on three hits.  He struck out five but walked five and hit one batter in the tough luck loss.

Karl Kofmel (Ottawa, ONT.) collected the lone RBI hit.  Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT), Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton), and Derek Speaker (Starpoint) each collected a hit for the Blue and Gold.

The Pioneers and the Trojans were scoreless until the 4th inning when NIACC scored four runs to take control of the game.  The Trojans added three more runs in the 5th before the Pioneers scored five runs in the 5th to cut it to 7-5.  North Iowa added an insurance run to secure the victory.
