Blue and Gold Run Win Streak to Four

After dropping their first three games on their southern trip to Cocoa, FL the Alfred State College baseball team has run their current winning streak to four games with two victories on Tuesday.  The Blue and Gold downed Minot State (ND) Bottineau 6-4 and then got the offense going with a 13-3 victory over Riverland (MN) CC.

After dropping their first three games on their southern trip to Cocoa, FL the Alfred State College baseball team has run their current winning streak to four games with two victories on Tuesday.  The Blue and Gold downed Minot State (ND) Bottineau 6-4 and then got the offense going with a 13-3 victory over Riverland (MN) CC.

Kevin Underhill (Somers) led the Pioneers 11-hit attack in the win over Minot State.  He finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) finished the game 1 for 4 with three stolen bases.

Joel Green (Horsheads) tossed 6.1 innings to earn the win.  He allowed 11 hits and three earned runs while striking out three batters.  Chris Fox (Mahopac) got the final two outs to record the save.

ASC scored three runs in the 5th inning to break a 3-3 tie.  Minot State rallied for a run in the 7th inning and had the tying run on 2nd base when the final out of the game was made.

Versus Riverland, the Pioneers pounded out 14 hits and cruised to the victory.  Speaker led the way with a 3 for 4, 3 RBI performance.  Underhill, Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington), Rueben Angeles (George Washington), and Jeff Paul (Horseheads) all finished 2 for 4.  Underhill and Espinosa each collected two RBI.

Andrew Foster (Brantford, ONT) evened up his record at 1-1 with a complete game three-hiter.  He allowed no earned runs while striking out nine batters.

The Pioneers return to action at Cocoa Expo on Wednesday with another doubleheader.  They have a re-match with Ridgewater (MN) CC at 10 a.m. and then a match-up with Cumberland (NJ) County CC at 1 p.m.
