Pioneer split at Cocoa

The Alfred State College baseball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers fell 11-5 to Ridgewater (MN) College but rebounded for a 3-1 victory over Cumberland (NJ) County CC.  With the split the Blue & Gold are now 5-4 on the season.

The Alfred State College baseball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers fell 11-5 to Ridgewater (MN) College but rebounded for a 3-1 victory over Cumberland (NJ) County CC.  With the split the Blue & Gold are now 5-4 on the season.

The Warriors jumped out to a 10-0 lead but the Pioneers mounted a rally.  In the 7th inning, ASC cut the lead to 11-5 and had the bases loaded before Ridgewater closed the game with two strikeouts.

Karl Kofmel (Ottawa, ONT.) was 2 for 2 with an RBI while David Mayo (Caugus, Puerto Rico) and Donny Smith (Brighton) collected hits and scored runs.

In the nightcap, Chris Fox (Mahopac) needed just 68 pitches to earn a complete game victory.  Fox allowed four hits and one earned run in the victory.  He struck out three and face just three batter over the minimun in the contest.

Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 1 for 2 with a run scored and a stolen base while Kevin Underhill (Somers) was 1 for 3 with an RBI double. 

The Pioneers hit the field again on Thursday morning when they take on Prairie State (IL) College at 10 a.m.
