Alfred State exceeds goal in annual Day of Giving

“It was a great Day of Giving. On behalf of everyone here at Alfred State, we thank all our donors, whether they are alumni or friends of the college and our students for getting involved. This day could not have happened without all of you.”

Thanks to another amazing show of support from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, Alfred State College was able to raise over $257,000 from over 250 donors on the ninth annual Day of Giving.

Trio of Pioneers receive Bob Pahl Sketching Awards

“The students did an excellent job growing their skills with their sketching. They had the opportunity to sketch amazing places in Sorrento and in a variety of places along their travels throughout Europe. I am proud of them and congratulate our three honorees.”

Timothy Harris honored with President’s Medallion

“This institution gave us all that launch. That opportunity to get to our dreams and make a better life for ourselves and our families.”

Timothy Harris, ’77, was honored for his support of Alfred State College at the annual President’s Society Dinner held at the Lake Lodge. Harris was awarded the President’s Medallion by President Dr. Steve Mauro.

Picture perfect day for the Alfred State Open

“This is really special because we started this tournament just amongst us playing for a little cup. We got the vision of expanding this and having an official Alfred State Open. My classmates totally supported the idea and having an event like this is a win for everybody."

Eighteen teams competed at the 4th annual Alfred State Open organized by the Class of 1978 at the Springville Country Club. The team of Mitch Shafer, TJ Klubek, Bryan Cybulski, and Christian Hollfeder took home the team honors with a score of 60.

Golisano makes largest gift in school history

“Tom Golisano has built an amazing career after his time at Alfred State, and this gift is a game changer and will help so many future Pioneers. We are honored and beyond grateful that he thought so much of his alma mater to include us in this huge commitment to our area.”

Tom Golisano, ’62, announced $360 million in awards to 82 non-profit organizations this included a gift of $5 million to his alma mater Alfred State College. This is the largest gift the college has ever received.    

“Tom Golisano has built an amazing career after his time at Alfred State, and this gift is a game changer and will help so many future Pioneers,” commented Alfred State President Dr. Steve Mauro. “We are honored and beyond grateful that he thought so much of his alma mater to include us in this huge commitment to our area.”  

ASC Alum Patricia Orsini Nilsen shines on the world stage

Patricia Orsini Nilsen, ’95, represented the United States and brought home a pair of gold medals at the Intersteno Congress in Katowice, Poland.

Patricia Orsini Nilsen, ’95, represented the United States and brought home a pair of gold medals at the Intersteno Congress in Katowice, Poland. Nilsen competed and took first place in both the speech capturing and Realtime competitions. 

Representatives of twenty-nine countries gathered at the bi-annual event. The Intersteno Congress embraces professional reporters, secretaries and parliamentary reporters using any technological method of fast writing. While informational conferences are held, the contests are the highlight of the event. 

Alfred State celebrates the opening of the Walter Sass Surveying Lab

"I am very impressed with what is going on here and very honored to be part of this college. We will continue to try to recruit Alfred State students and continue to be a friend to the college.”

Walter Sass, ’78, has never forgotten the educational roots that started his path to success in the surveying world. Alfred State gathered with Sass and his family to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Walter Sass Surveying Lab that will help educate future generations of Pioneers.

Tenth annual Alfred State Golf Tournament a success

Thirty-four teams enjoyed gorgeous weather at the 10th annual Pioneers Drive for the Development Fund golf tournament at the Wellsville Country Club. The event presented by Mach Architecture raised more than $29,000 in cash and gifts in kind for Alfred State.
