Lady Pioneers down Dean

For the second time in eight days the Alfred State College women's basketball team won a tight contest versus Dean College.  On Sunday afternoon in Franklin, MA the Lady Pioneers improved to 7-3 on the year with a 79-70 victory.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) led A-State with 25 pionts while Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) had a career high 17 points.  Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) and Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT.) each finished with 11 while Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) chipped in 8 points.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team dropped a tight contest at the CC of Rhode Island, 74-69 on Saturday afternoon.  The Knights scored seven of the games final nine points in the last minute to break a 67-67 tie.  Alfred falls to 8-4 on the year while CCRI improves to 8-4.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) led the Blue and Gold with 21 points, including four three-pointers.  Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) and Dan Foley (Irondequoit) each finished with 11.

CCRI held a 38-37 lead at half.

Lady Pioneers hang tough but fall at CCRI

The Alfred State College women's basketball team hung tough with #18 CC of Rhode Island but the Lady Knights used a strong second half en route to a 69-50 victory.  The Lady Pioneers five game winning streak was snapped and the team sits at 6-3 on the season while CCRI improves to 6-2.

CCRI led 37-33 at half and the game was still within striking distance for the Lady Pioneers until the final five minutes when the Knights pushed the lead out.

Pioneers finish 4th, Longenecker named Most Outstanding Wrestler

The Alfred State College wrestling team finished 4th in the team standings at the annual ASC Open.  Sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) was the Pioneers lone weight class winner bringing home the championship at 133 lbs.

Longenecker improved to 13-2 on the season with his two victories.  He downed Mike Capaboanco (Mercyhurst Unattached) 8-4 in the semifinals and then downed James Henderson (Mercyhurst North East) 8-3 in the finals.

images of student life over the past century, and is paired with a collection
of everyday and specialized items introduced over the same time period.  Funds for the exhibit were provided by an ASC
Centennial Committee grant which covered the reproduction and professional

Wrestlers fall at Niagara

Niagara CCC jumped out to a 21-0 lead over Alfred State in a WNYAC dual match en route to a 32-13 victory.  NCCC improves to 6-0 in dual matches while the Pioneers fall to 1-4.

The evening started with a close match at 141 lbs.  Alfred's Devin Hennessey (Bridewater-Raynham) fell 5-3.  The Trailblazers got a forfeit victory at 149, earned a pin at 157, and won decisions at 165 and 174 to gain a 21-0 lead.

Doorley named AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year

Coach Doorley gives signsFor the second year in a row Alfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Two-Year College Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year.  Doorley led the Lady Pioneers to their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships since 1977.

Strong First Half lead ASC to Tournament Championship

The Alfred State College men's basketball team got off to a fast start and withstood a comeback attempt to claim the ASC tournament title, 85-78 over Rockland CC.  A-State is now 8-0 in the four-year history of the tournament and improve to 8-3 for the season.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) had another solid game on his way to being named tournament MVP.  He finished with 17 points (9 for 10 from the foul line), six rebounds, and six assists.

Longenecker wins NCCC Open Title

Alfred State College sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) went 3-0 in the 133 lb. weight class to win the title at the Niagara CCC Open on Saturday afternoon.  Longenecker was one of four Pioneers to finish in the top five in their weight class.

Longenecker opened up the day with a 13-4 victory and then earned a 13-6 win in the semifinals.  He earned the championship title with a 8-4 victory.

Scott Ray (Hornell) won his first two matches at 157 lbs to advance to the finals.  In the finals he suffered an injury and earned a 2nd place finish.
