The Alfred State College men's basketball team got off to a fast start and withstood a comeback attempt to claim the ASC tournament title, 85-78 over Rockland CC.  A-State is now 8-0 in the four-year history of the tournament and improve to 8-3 for the season.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team got off to a fast start and withstood a comeback attempt to claim the ASC tournament title, 85-78 over Rockland CC.  A-State is now 8-0 in the four-year history of the tournament and improve to 8-3 for the season.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) had another solid game on his way to being named tournament MVP.  He finished with 17 points (9 for 10 from the foul line), six rebounds, and six assists.

Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) led all scorers with 20 points and nine rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team.  Jerome Hall (Cicero North Syracuse) was tough off the bench finishing with 14 points and 10 boards.  He was 12 for 13 from the foul line.  ASC finished the contest 36 for 42 from the foul line (85.7%).

John Mills led Rockland with 16 points and seven rebounds while Christian Clemente finished with 14 points and six boards.  Anthony Ford and Matt Rose each finished with 12 and Brendan Barile chipped in 11.  Ford and Clemente were named to the all-tournament team.

Alfred State jumped out to a 45-29 lead at halftime but Rockland cut it to just two points, 76-74 with 1:26 remaining.  The Pioneers went got a clutch hanging jumper from Jackson to go up by four and were 7 for 8 at the line to seal the victory.

The consolation game was forfeited by Dean College.  Jefferson CC finishes 3rd in the tournament with Chris Noel and Silvon John being named to the all-tournament team.

The Pioneers hit the road next week for three contests beginning on Tuesday with a battle at Finger Lakes CC.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
