Tom Golisano to Receive Honorary Doctorate at Alfred State Commencement in May

Rochester, the second-largest payroll processor in the United States,
and 1962 general business management graduate of Alfred State College, will
receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters, at his alma mater's
commencement ceremony, Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Brannen Named National and Region Athlete of the Week

Alfred State College sophomore center Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III Male co-athlete of the week.  Brannen is the third Pioneer to be honored by Region III in the past three weeks.

Wrestlers Fall in Regular Season Finale

The Alfred State College wrestling team fell 46-10 in their regular season finale at Niagara CCC on Saturday.  The Pioneers were slowed down by four forfeits on the day.

Eric Giles (Vestal) recorded a pin of Don Schildhauer two minutes into his match at 174 lbs. and Dan Steiger (Miller Place) earned a 12-1 victory over Justin Galusha in action at 184 lbs.

The blue and gold finish the regular season with a 1-6 dual match record and now shift their focus to the Region III/Northeast Districts on February 15 at Niagara CCC.

Tracksters Fare Well at Susquehanna

The Alfred State College indoor track and field team fared well as they competed with 17 different colleges at the Susquehanna Invitational on Saturday.

Wenley Louis (Irondequoit) finished 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 15.63 m while Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) earned a 4th place finish in the pole vault (4.27 m).  Lemanuel Hawkins (East Orange, NJ) was 5th in the 200 (23.54) and Alex Curran (Williamson) was 7th in the pole vault (4.10 m).

Trailing 61-58 with four and half minutes left in the game, the Alfred State College men's basketball team went on a 12-0 run to close out the contest to win their fifth straight contest, 70-61 over Niagara CCC.  The Pioneers improve to 13-10 overall and 5-4 in WNYAC play.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) led the way with 22 points and four rebounds while Dan Foley (Irondequoit) added 21 points and 10 boards.  Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) had a big day with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) netted 31 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball team defeated a fiesty Niagara CCC 72-65 in Sanborn on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers are now 9-10 overall on the season and 4-3 in Region III Division II contests.

State Budget Update

In my effort to keep all
constituencies informed as the New York State budget process evolves,
the following summarizes the impact that Governor Paterson's budget
proposal may have on Alfred State. You'll recall
from my earlier communication that there were three types of possible
budget cuts that would substantially affect the college. They were: the
non-funding of negotiated salary increases, the state's redirection of
90% of the revenue from tuition increases, and
a SUNY base budget cut.
