Caba Part of NJCAA Hall of Fame Class

Alfred State Football coach Mick Caba is part of the 2012 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class. Caba, in his 13th season at the helm of the Pioneer football program is joined in the class by Terrence Cody (defensive linemen from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) and the 1983 Coffeyville CC football team.

Alfred State Football coach Mick Caba is part of the 2012 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class. Caba, in his 13th season at the helm of the Pioneer football program is joined in the class by Terrence Cody (defensive linemen from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) and the 1983 Coffeyville CC football team. 


The 2012 season is Caba's 17th year coaching at the NJCAA level.  Earlier in his career he spent four years at the helm of Inver Hills CC in Minneapolis, MN.  His overall record in NJCAA, including the 2012 season, is 72-89.


Pfleghardt and Braun Named All-Region

Alfred State volleyball players Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) and Lera Braun (Waterloo) have been named All-Region following the Lady Pioneers 27-15 season. Pfleghardt was a 1st team selection while Braun was named 2nd team.

Lupo and Platt Named Athletes of the Week

Cross country runners Kim Lupo (Auburn) and Jedadiah Platt (Barker) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office. Lupo and Platt were the top Alfred finishers at the Region III Championships.

Lupo finished 6th in the women's 5k championships.  She finished the course in 22:32.1.  Her finish helped the Lady Pioneers to the Region III Championship with 45 points.  Alfred and Mohawk Valley CC tied for the overall title.  The title was the 2nd straight for Alfred and the 6th overall in program history.

Volleyball Season Closes at Regionals

The Alfred State volleyball season came to an end at the Region III Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lady Pioneers were 1-2 in pool play and failed to advance to the tournament semifinals.

The Alfred State volleyball season came to an end at the Region III Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lady Pioneers were 1-2 in pool play and failed to advance to the tournament semifinals.


The blue & gold opened the day falling to #5 seeded Jefferson CC 20-25, 19-25, 23-25.  They then defeated #9 Corning CC 25-16, 25-20, 25-8 to stay alive for the semifinals.  Needing to sweep #1 Niagara CCC, Alfred State won the opening match 25-20 but fell 12-25 and 16-25 to end the season.

Dream Season Comes to an End

The Alfred State women's soccer team's 2012 dream season ended as Broome CC used two 1st half goals to defeat the Lady Pioneers 2-1 in the Region III Division III A bracket finals. The Lady Pioneers finish their season with a 17-2 mark while Broome advances to the NJCAA DIII National Tournament.

Lady Pioneers Win Region III Cross Country Title, Men 3rd

The Alfred State and Mohawk Valley CC women's cross country ran to a share of the Region III Championships. Both teams scored a 45 and will share the Region III title in a highly competitive race. In the men's competition the Pioneers finished 3rd out of the nine teams competing.

The top three teams in the women's competition were separated by a mere four points.  Alfred and MVCC both scored 45's while SUNY Delhi was right behind in 3rd with 49 points.

Knights Trip Up Pioneers

Southern Virginia University took advantage of three Alfred State turnovers and ten penalties in a 21-6 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improve to 3-6 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 3-4.
