Southern Virginia University took advantage of three Alfred State turnovers and ten penalties in a 21-6 victory on Saturday afternoon.  The Knights improve to 3-6 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 3-4.

Neither team could get on the board in the 1st half until the final minutes when SVU put together a seven-play 74-yard drive.  Cameron Williams caught a 4-yard pass from Andy Jones to cap the drive in which Alfred was called for two personal fouls.

On their 2nd drive of the second half, SVU put together a 13-play march down the field and scored on a Jones 3-yard pass to Michael Kilstrom on a 4th and goal play in which Jones broke out of a would be sack.

After an interception by Cameron Williams, the Knight put the game out of reach with a 11-yard scoring run by Ethan Condiff with 2:22 remaining.

Shawn Charles (Rochester/Greece Olympia) breathed a little hope into the Pioneers when he returned the ensuing kickoff 83-yards to make it 21-6.

The Pioneers recovered the onside kick but turned the ball over on the very next play to seal the SVU victory.

Joey Frendo (Fremont, MI) was 15 for 28 for 142 yards.  Chris Cohen (Dingmans, PA) caught three passes for 41 yards, Erik Simmons (Elmira Free) had three receptions for 39 yards, and Dileel Bartley (Rochester/Edison) had three catches for 33 yards.  The offense was held to 193 yards on the day.

Michael Gibson (Capital Heights, MD) led the defense with nine tackles while Keegan Phelan (East Aurora) and David Howell (Rochester/Greece Athena) each had eight.  Collin Frazer (Woodbridge, VA) added seven tackles and an interception and Alonzo Joyner (Queens/Info Tech) finished with seven tackles.

The Knights were led by Frank Taitano's 54 yards rushing and Jamal Coates' 40 yards on the ground. Matt Gregory and Robert Robbins each had eight tackles while Dylan Hall had six tackles and two sacks.

Alfred turned the ball over three times (two interceptions and a fumble) and were called for 10 penalties that resulted in 69 yards.  The Pioneers were just 4 of 15 on 3rd downs and were forced to punt nine times in the game.

The Pioneers will look to end a three-game losing streak next Saturday when they host the Onondaga Ogres FC at 1 p.m.
