Cross country runners Kim Lupo (Auburn) and Jedadiah Platt (Barker) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office. Lupo and Platt were the top Alfred finishers at the Region III Championships.
Lupo finished 6th in the women's 5k championships. She finished the course in 22:32.1. Her finish helped the Lady Pioneers to the Region III Championship with 45 points. Alfred and Mohawk Valley CC tied for the overall title. The title was the 2nd straight for Alfred and the 6th overall in program history.
Platt led the Pioneer men's contingent at Regionals with a 5th place finish on the 5-mile course. He crossed the finish line in 30:57.4. Alfred finished 3rd in the team competition with 86 points.
The cross country team will train this week and next in preparation for the NJCAA Division III National Championships that will be held at SUNY Delhi on November 10th.
