A program about Alfred State’s nationally-recognized study abroad program in Sorrento, Italy, will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the School of Engineering Technology (SET), Room 215 on the Alfred campus. A light reception will be offered prior to the event at 6 p.m.

Teaming Up to Celebrate Service and Allegany County

Alfred State students will be among more than 400 student volunteers from Houghton College, Alfred University, and area high schools who will be participating in “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Allegany” on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Alfred State students will be among more than 400 student volunteers from Houghton College, Alfred University, and area high schools who will be participating in “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Allegany” on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Volunteers will be working on projects ranging from clean-up of streets and parks to painting and cleaning for non-profit organizations and assisting senior citizens or disabled individuals with general yard care and maintenance needs.

Lady Pioneers Remain #1

The 17-1 Alfred State women's soccer team remained in the top spot of this week's NJCAA Division III poll released today. The Lady Pioneers have won 17-straight and are playing for the Region III Championship this weekend.

The 17-1 Alfred State women's soccer team remained in the top spot of this week's NJCAA Division III poll released today.  The Lady Pioneers have won 17-straight and are playing for the Region III Championship this weekend.


The Lady Pioneers are followed in the poll by Ocean County College, Finger Lakes CC, Mohawk Valley CC, and Brookdale CC.  Gloucester County College, Bunker Hill CC, Holyoke CC, Richland College, and Potomac State round out the top ten.


President Anderson to Serve on Search Committee

Dr. John M. Anderson, president of Alfred State, has been selected to serve as the State University of New York (SUNY) representative on the SUNY Empire State College Presidential Search Committee.

Dr. John M. Anderson, president of Alfred State, has been selected to serve as the State University of New York (SUNY) representative on the SUNY Empire State College Presidential Search Committee.

This recently formed committee will recommend candidates to succeed former President Alan R. Davis, who announced his resignation in the spring of this year to take the position of president at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in British Columbia.

News of the formation of the committee and the selection of its members was announced in September by SUNY Empire State College.

Women 3rd, Men 7th in Latest Cross Country Poll

Heading into this weekend's Region III Championships, the Alfred State women's cross country team is tied for 3rd in the latest NJCAA Division III poll while the men are ranked #7.

Heading into this weekend's Region III Championships, the Alfred State women's cross country team is tied for 3rd in the latest NJCAA Division III poll while the men are ranked #7.


Gloucester (NJ) County College leads this week's women's poll followed by Mohawk Valley.  Alfred and Ocean CC are tied for 3rd while Suffolk CC and SUNY Delhi are tied for 5th.  The Lady Pioneers will race vs. both MVCC and Delhi this weekend on the Hawks home course in Utica.

Lady Pioneers Advance to Regional Finals

The Alfred State women's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III A Finals with a 1-0 victory over Clinton CC in a semifinal match-up. The #1 ranked and #1 seeded Lady Pioneers will take on #4 Broome CC in the finals on Saturday afternoon.

The lone goal of the game came 20:58 into the game when Hannah Holmok's (Alfred Almond) shot deflected off the Cougar defender and found the back of the net.  Stephanie Simard (Warsaw) was credited with the assist.


DeMonte, Daniels, & Hanrahan Named Athletes of the Week

Football players Mikel DeMonte (Brockport) and Thomas Daniels (Bronx/ICE) along with volleyball player Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Demonte had a break-out game vs. the Apprentice School.  He caught seven passes for 128 yards.  He scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 79-yard pass play.  He entered the game with only three catches.


Four Baseball Players Named All-WNYAC

Four members of the Alfred State baseball team have been honored by the Western New York Athletic Conference. Daiki Iizuka (Chiba, Japan) was named 2nd team while Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA), Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton), and Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg).

Four members of the Alfred State baseball team have been honored by the Western New York Athletic Conference.  Daiki Iizuka (Chiba, Japan) was named 2nd team while Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA), Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton), and Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg).


Iizuka led the blue & gold with a .348 batting average (8 for 23).  He collected two doubles and scored three runs.  He was also 3 for 4 on the basepaths.


Three Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Three members of the Alfred State volleyball team have been named All-WNYAC. Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) and Lera Braun (Waterloo) were named to the 2nd team while Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) was a 3rd team selection.

Three members of the Alfred State volleyball team have been named All-WNYAC.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) and Lera Braun (Waterloo) were named to the 2nd team while Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) was a 3rd team selection.


Pfleghardt leads the Lady Pioneers with 389 kills (3.57 per set).  She also has 300 digs (2.75 per set), 68 service aces, and 39 aces.  She has appeared in 109 of the team's 126 sets on the year.
