Volleyball Season Closes at Regionals

The Alfred State volleyball season came to an end at the Region III Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lady Pioneers were 1-2 in pool play and failed to advance to the tournament semifinals.

The Alfred State volleyball season came to an end at the Region III Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lady Pioneers were 1-2 in pool play and failed to advance to the tournament semifinals.


The blue & gold opened the day falling to #5 seeded Jefferson CC 20-25, 19-25, 23-25.  They then defeated #9 Corning CC 25-16, 25-20, 25-8 to stay alive for the semifinals.  Needing to sweep #1 Niagara CCC, Alfred State won the opening match 25-20 but fell 12-25 and 16-25 to end the season.


Lera Braun (Waterloo) was named All-Tournament team following a day in which she registered 70 assists, 29 digs, seven kills, two aces, and two blocks.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) had 33 kills, 26 digs, and five aces while Mallory Eberhardt (Lyons) had 18 kills, 26 digs, and 10 aces.  Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) finished the day with 17 kills, nine digs, three aces, and two blocks and Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) recorded 40 digs.


The Lady Pioneers were making their 9th straight trip to the Region III Tournament and finish the year with a 27-15 overall record.  Alfred has won 20 or more games for the 7th straight year.
