Men's Basketball Participates in Move and Groove Night

The Alfred State men's basketball team participated in the Alfred Almond Central School Move and Groove Night on Thursday evening. The Pioneers ran 70 students through a variety of basketball drills.

Pioneers Close out Season

The Alfred State men's basketball team struggled from the floor and fell 66-54 to Jamestown CC in their 2011-12 season finale. The Pioneers end the year 7-21 (2-12 WNYAC) while JCC improves to 14-14.

The Pioneers trailed 36-25 at half but cut the Jayhawk lead to 48-43 with just over nine minutes left but JCC finished the game on a 18 to 11 run to earn the victory.

Xavier Kennedy recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Kenny Stokes finished with 16 points and nine rebounds and CJ Reid added 15 points and nine boards.

NCAA grants exploratory status to Alfred State

The NCAA Division III membership committee announced this week that it has granted exploratory status to the Alfred State athletic program. Alfred State submitted the NCAA application in January.

 “Moving to NCAA is a natural evolution in creating a four-year college environment at Alfred State. We are excited about the prospects of having our athletes compete for four years wearing the blue & gold,”  said Alfred State President, John Anderson.

Pioneers Can't Hang On

The Alfred State men's basketball team led by 13 at half but was unable to hold on and fell 85-82 to Genesee CC in the final road contest of the season.  The Pioneers are now 7-20 overall and 2-11 in WNYAC play.

Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) led the Pioneers with 28 points and nine rebounds.  Parker was 10 for 18 from the field.  DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) chipped in 20 and nine assists, Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Dashino Charles (Elizabeth, NJ) had eight.

Huge 2nd Half Lifts Lakers

Lakeland CC used a monster 2nd half to ease past Alfred State 94-71 on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers used a 45 to 17 run and tallied 62 points in the 2nd to improve to 19-7 on the year.

Chaz Rollins led the Lakers with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Martell Medley finished with 19.  Daishon Robinson and Deran Banton both had 14 while Richard Smith chipped in 12 points and 11 boards.  Lakeland shot 56.8% from the field in the 2nd half to break open a 32-29 game at halftime.  LCC also held a 53 to 34 advantage on the boards.

Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift the Alfred State men's basketball team to a 58-56 victory over Monroe CC.  The victory snaps a Pioneers five game losing skid and improves the team to 7-18 (2-10 WNYAC).

Hall and Nagle Named Athletes of the Week

Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hill) and Travis Nagle (Randolph) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Hall had a big week for the Pioneer basketball team. He averaged 23 ppg and 9 rpg in the blue & gold's three contests.  He recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds vs. Genesee, had 26 points and nine rebounds at Erie, and finished the week with 21 points and seven rebounds at Niagara.  For the season, Hall is averaging 13.8 ppg and 6.2 rebounds.  He leads the team with 52 made 3-pointers.

The Alfred State men's basketball team dropped their sixth game in 2012 by ten points or less on Saturday, 87-80 at Niagara CCC.  The Pioneers are now 6-17 overall and 1-9 in WNYAC play.

The Pioneers trailed by just three at half, 37-34, but the Thunderwolves extended the lead to as many as 17 in the 2nd half before the Pioneers mounted a comeback that cut the lead to as little as seven.

Pioneers Fall to Hot Shooting Kats

Erie CC conneced on 14 three-pointers and shot 51.3% for the game as they downed the Alfred State men's basketball team 108-71 in a WNYAC contest.  The Pioneers are now 6-16 (1-8 WNYAC) on the season while ECC is 17-3 (7-1 WNYAC).

Darale Young netted 21 and Haruna Sule finished with 20 to lead five Kats in double figures.  Erie finished the night 14 for 34 from behind the arc.
