Late Run Leads Lady Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State College women's basketball team scored the final seven points in the contest as they defeated Mercyhurst North East 68-61 in a WNYAC match-up on Thursday.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 8-9 overall.

Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) connected on a jumper from the corner to break a 61-61 tie with 54 seconds left.  Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) added to the lead by hitting 3 of 4 foul shots and Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) hit a lay-up as time expired.

Wrestling Cancelled at Jamestown; Will Wrestle Friday

Wednesday evening's WNYAC wrestling dual match between Alfred State and Jamestown CC has been cancelled due to the poor weather conditions.  The two teams will now wrestle on Friday January 30 at 6 p.m.

Pioneers fall at Monroe

Both the Alfred State College men's and women's basketball teams fell at Monroe CC on Tuesday in WNYAC match-ups.  The men fell 66-56 to the #7 ranked Tribunes (17-5) while the women fell 94-46 to the #17 Lady Tribunes (16-4).

Brooks Named Region Athlete of the Week

For the second time this season, Alfred State College sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks recorded double-doubles in all three games this past week as the Lady Pioneers were 2-1 to improve to 7-8 on the season.

Men win Delhi Invite

The Alfred State College men's swimming team continued their solid season by winning the SUNY Delhi Invitational.  The Pioneer men have now won three invitationals this season.  The women finished 8th out of nine teams.

Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) won the 1650 free (18:24.47), the 100 backstroke (1:02.26) while Aaron Mychack (Lansing) won the 50 free (23.61) and 100 butterfly (58.07).

Louis and Gross set new school records at Fredonia

Wenley Louis (Irondequoit) and David Gross (Brockport) each set new school records as the Alfred State College indoor track and field team competed at the Mary Phillips Open at SUNY Fredonia.

Louis set a new school record and qualified for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships by winning the long jump.  His winning leap of 7.10 m breaks the previous record held by Alton West of 7.04 m.  Lewis also won the triple jump with a mark of 13.91 narrowly missing qualifying for nationals in the event.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team battled Erie CC tough but fell 64-50 in a WNYAC match-up on Saturday afternoon.  ASC falls to 8-9 (2-3 WNYAC) while the ECC improves to 16-5 (3-2 WNYAC).

Brooks leads Lady Pioneers past Erie

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) scored a career high 33 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball team outscored Erie CC 50-30 in the second half en route to a 89-75 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in WNYAC play.

Brooks was 11 for 20 from the field, 2 for 3 from three, and 9 for 14 from the foul line as she scored over 30 for the second straight game.  She also grabbed 13 rebounds, passed out four assists, and was credited with four steals.  Brooks scored 80 points during the Lady Pioneers three games this week.

The Alfred State College Nursing Department continued its "Pay It Forward" philosophy through the awarding of its third annual round of  "Pay It Forward" scholarships, established during the fall 2005 semester and presented to this year's recipients, senior nursing students Carla Chamberlain, Andover; Laura Lindsey, Olean; and Michael Otugh,

The Alfred State College Nursing Department continued its "Pay It Forward" philosophy through the awarding of its third annual round of  "Pay It Forward" scholarships, established during the fall 2005 semester and presented to this year's recipients, senior nursing students Carla Chamberlain, Andover; Laura Lindsey, Olean; and Michael Otugh, Brooklyn (originally from Nigeria), at semester's end.  Each student received $150 and a copy of the original signatures of those who initiated the scholarship, class of 2005.
