Lacrosse Ends Regular Season with Convincing Win

The Alfred State College lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with a convincing 16-4 victory over Tompkins Cortland CC.  The Pioneers, ranked #10 in the latest NJCAA poll, will head into the postseason with a 10-3 record and a 8-3 mark in Region III play.

Baseball Sweeps Past Lazers

The Alfred State College baseball team swept a pair from Onondaga CC, 7-6 and 9-5, to finish the week with a 5-3 record.  On the year, the Pioneers are now 24-15.

In the opener, pinch runner Andrew Foster (Mississauga, ONT) scored all the way from second on a infield error in the 7th inning to lift ASC to the victory.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Karl Kofmal (Ottawa, ONT) was 2 for 4.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) allowed four earned runs in the complete game victory.  He walked three and struck out eight.

Lady Pioneers Fall To TCCC

The Alfred State College softball team played tough but couldn't defeat the #14 Tompkins Cortland CC in a Region III Division III doubleheader on Sunday.  The Lady Panthers earned identical 5-1 victories.

In the opener, ASC had the bases loaded and the tying run up with one out but were unable to inch any closer.  Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) led the offense wtiha  3 for 4 day while Katherine McCarthy (Orchard Park) drove home the lone run.  Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) went the distance on the mound allowing nine hits while striking out five batters.

Pioneers Win Home Finale

The #10 ranked Alfred State College lacrosse team closed out the home portion of their season with a 21-11 victory over Jefferson CC on Saturday.  Ten different Pioneers found the back of net as the blue and gold scored their most goals of the season.

The Pioneers jumped on top early on the Cannoneers leading 8-3 after the first quarter and 14-5 at halftime.

Streater's Big Day Leads ASC Track

Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) had a huge day as the Alfred State College track and field team competed at SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.

Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) had a huge day as the Alfred State College track and field team competed at SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.

Streater broke the Alfred State College record in the high jump with a leap of 2.05 m (6'8 ¾".  He breaks Shennan Hennrich's previous record of 6'6 ¼".  His leap earned him 2nd place in the competition.  Streater also won the 200 (21.91) and finished 3rd in the 100 (11.04).

Lady Pioneers Drop Pair of Heartbreakers

The Alfred State College softball team saw leads in the 7th inning slip away in both halves of a WNYAC doubleheader with Erie CC.  The Lady Kats earned 8-7 (eight innings) and 6-4 victories.

In the opener, ECC jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Lady Pioneers scored seven in the 5th to take the lead.  The Kats evened the game up with a run in the 7th and won the game with a run in the 8th.

The Alfred State College baseball team struggles in the field led to a doubleheader sweep at Genesee CC, 12-2 and 4-3, on Saturday to close out the Region III Division II regular season for both teams.  ASC is now 22-15 (7-5 RIII DII).

In the opener, the Cougars scored seven unearned runs in the 5th to break open a 3-2 contest.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) and Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) each connected on RBI doubles for the offense.

Gross Breaks School Record at Penn Relays

David Gross (Brockport) broke the Alfred State College outdoor track and field record in the shot put on Friday morning while competing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.

Gross recorded a toss of 50'2.75" to break the previous Pioneer best toss of JR Houston (50'2").  His toss unfortunately did not qualify him for the final round.

Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) also participated in the Penn Relays in the pole vault but did not place.

The Alfred State College baseball team scored 33 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Broome CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 22-13 on the season with 17-5 and 16-11 victories.

Alfred State College and Jamestown CC split a pair of games in a WNYAC doubleheader on Thursday.  ASC fell 3-0 in the opener but bounced back for a 2-1 win in game two.  The Lady Pioneers are now 12-15 overall on the season and 9-6 in Region III Division III play.
