Baseball Sweeps Past Lazers

The Alfred State College baseball team swept a pair from Onondaga CC, 7-6 and 9-5, to finish the week with a 5-3 record.  On the year, the Pioneers are now 24-15.

In the opener, pinch runner Andrew Foster (Mississauga, ONT) scored all the way from second on a infield error in the 7th inning to lift ASC to the victory.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Karl Kofmal (Ottawa, ONT) was 2 for 4.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) allowed four earned runs in the complete game victory.  He walked three and struck out eight.

Alfred State scored three in the 3rd and four in the 4th to erase a 2-1 deficit in the nightcap en route to the victory.  Wallace was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI doubles, Kofmel was 2 for 3, and Ray Sova (West Genesee) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) earned the win with a complete game eight hitter.  He allowed four earned runs while walking one and striking out five batters.

The blue and gold conclude the regular season on Tuesday when they host Finger Lakes CC in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

Seeding for next weekend's Region III Division II tournament will be announced on Monday with the Pioneers most likely the #3 seed.
