The Alfred State College baseball team struggles in the field led to a doubleheader sweep at Genesee CC, 12-2 and 4-3, on Saturday to close out the Region III Division II regular season for both teams.  ASC is now 22-15 (7-5 RIII DII).

The Alfred State College baseball team struggles in the field led to a doubleheader sweep at Genesee CC, 12-2 and 4-3, on Saturday to close out the Region III Division II regular season for both teams.  ASC is now 22-15 (7-5 RIII DII).

In the opener, the Cougars scored seven unearned runs in the 5th to break open a 3-2 contest.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) and Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) each connected on RBI doubles for the offense.

In the nighcap, Kyle Binder (Hornell) was the tough luck loser on the mound.  He allowed no earned runs in six innings of work.  He allowed four hits while striking out three and walking one.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  The offense was held to just two hits in the contest.

The blue and gold play a non-league doubleheader on Sunday versus Onondaga CC.  First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
