Lady Pioneers Advance to Regional Finals

The Alfred State women's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III A Finals with a 1-0 victory over Clinton CC in a semifinal match-up.  The #1 ranked and #1 seeded Lady Pioneers will take on #4 Broome CC in the finals on Saturday afternoon.

The lone goal of the game came 20:58 into the game when Hannah Holmok's (Alfred Almond) shot deflected off the Cougar defender and found the back of the net.  Stephanie Simard (Warsaw) was credited with the assist.

Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the game.  Clinton was held to just three shots in the 1st half and only one in the 2nd.  Alfred finished the contest with 24 shots but Emily Schultz was credited with 18 saves including 13 in the 2nd half.  Lady Pioneer goalie Krista DeCarlo (Bayshore/West Islip) made four saves to record her eight solo shutout of the season and the team's 14th of the season.

With the win the Lady Pioneers improve to 17-1 on the season and run their winning streak to 17 games.  During that 17-game stretch the Lady Pioneers have outscored opponents 69 to 4.

Alfred will take on Broome CC in the Region III Division III A Finals on Saturday at Tompkins Cortland CC starting at 3 p.m.  The Lady Pioneers will be looking to earn the program's first Region III Championship.  The last time the blue & gold was in the Regional Final was in 2008 when they fell to BCC.

The Lady Hornets defeated #5 SUNY Delhi 6-2 in their semifinal contest and will enter the contest with a 14-3 mark on the year.  BCC is riding a 10-game winning streak in which they have outscored opponents 46 to 5.  Alfred State handed Broome their last loss on Sept. 20th when the Lady Pioneers earned a 2-0 win.

In other Region III action, #2 Finger Lakes CC defeated Herkimer CCC 6-0 and #3 Mohawk Valley CC defeated Erie CC 4-1.  FLCC and MVCC will meet each other in the B bracket final at 12:30 p.m. at TC3.

The winners of each Region III Final will advance to the NJCAA DIII National Championships held Nov. 8-11 at Tompkins Cortland CC.
