Alfred State College’s own Abigail Campbell and Justin Campbell, both of Geneseo, were recently awarded scholarship grants from the Construction Advancement Institute (CAI).

Altogether, CAI awarded $45,000 in grants to nine regional undergraduate students who are enrolled in engineering, architecture, construction technology, construction management, or other related programs this fall.

With commencement set for Sunday, May 13, Alfred State College (ASC) seniors are preparing for their next steps. For a majority of ASC graduates, it’s a seamless transition from school life to the working world.

Mathew Watson, a 2017 graduate of the Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) program at Alfred State, has embarked on a global journey to launch his career in architecture, one that includes a rather unique focus – bamboo.

During his thesis studio at Alfred State, Watson explored the use of bamboo in architecture to address humanitarian and sustainable building. Considering the effects of climate change, Watson merged these concepts to develop a thesis centered on disaster relief housing: Dr. Bamboo Homes, the letters of “Dr” standing for “disaster relief.”

Alfred State College's construction management program was the focus of a recent article featured on FUEL, a website run by "word-toting construction junkies who build articles and drill into the details of construction."

Titled "NY College Helps Create Construction Professionals," the article highlights Alfred State's teams that competed in the Associated Schools of Construction Region 1 competition, and mentions that the college's construction management program is "feeding a hungry labor market."

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) recently hosted 10 Alfred State students at the 17th annual Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP) symposium.

With the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence having lost a number of tenants over the past few years, a group of Alfred State College (ASC) architecture students recently developed a comprehensive study to revolutionize the site into a new, first-of-its-kind lifestyle center.

Speaking to members of the Clarence Town Board, ASC architecture Design Studio 5 students recently presented their idea, which involves creating a huge campus where people would live, work, and play. The students say it is designed for everyone, with a particular emphasis on those with disabilities.

Alfred State ranks No. 1 for court reporting according to US News and World Report's 2018 Best Colleges list. ASC is also the only ranked school offering the major. In all, Alfred State placed on national top 10 lists nine times for the selected majors.
