Cold Shooting Dooms Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State College women's basketball team shot just 16% in the 1st half and were never able to recover in a 59-49 loss to Mercyhurst North East.  The Lady Saints are now 11-8, 6-2 Region III Division II while ASC falls to 11-12, 1-6 RIII DII.

Kaveeda Myers came off the bench and led the Saints with 25 points.  Darnesha Tomllinson finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Cassie Esler finished with seven points and six rebounds.

ASC Tangles with Ithaca

The Pioneers trailed 36-30 at half but rallied to lead by as many as 10 in the 2nd half but struggled at the foul line (2 of 7) down the stretch and allowed the Bombers to rally for the victory.

Younatan Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) led ASC with 22 points while Patrick Parker (Jamaica/Hillcrest) finished with 15.  Nick Tucker (Genesee Valley) chipped in 13.

Tracksters Compete at East Stroudsburg

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team was one of over 30 teams that competed on Saturday at the 12th annual DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University.  Byron Jones (Niagara Falls) and David Miller (Elmira Southside) both recorded 2nd place finishes to lead the way

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team was one of over 30 teams that competed on Saturday at the 12th annual DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University.  Byron Jones (Niagara Falls) and David Miller (Elmira Southside) both recorded 2nd place finishes to lead the way.

Jones was 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 13.87 m while Miller leapt 14' in the pole vault.

Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) was 7th in the 800 m (2:28.93), Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) was 10th in the 55 m dash (7.78)

Monroe Rides Hot Shooting

Monroe CC connected on 16-three pointers and shot 51% for the game as they downed Alfred State 108-70 on Saturday.  MCC is now 15-7, (7-1 WNYAC) while ASC is 3-18 (0-9 WNYAC).

Younatan Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) led ASC with 18 points while Milton Colquehoun (Silver Springs, MD) continued his solid play as of late with 16.  Ryan Caron (Prattsburgh) chipped in nine.

Aaron Williams and Jacob Grant each had 19 points as the Tribunes finished with seven player in double figures.

Lady Pioneers Downed by Monroe

The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell to NJCAA Division I Monroe CC 95-31 on Saturday afternoon. The loss evens the Lady Pioneers record to 11-11 while the Tribunes are now 14-6.

Tiffany Walton (Brooklyn/William Grady) was the lone Pioneer in double figures finishing with 10 points.  Amie Brooks (Pavilion) chipped in nine points and six rebounds.

Deven Green led MCC with 14 points while Sehmonyeh Allen had 13 as five Lady Tribunes finished in double figures.  MCC led 51-27 at half and held the Pioneers to just four points in the second.

ASC Among Winners of International Student Design Competition

The architectural design competition, held by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), is open to students of architecture currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program. This year’s project was to design a building to house a Classroom of the Future on a site in Tennessee utilizing tilt-up concrete construction.

Alfred State College was well represented among the winners of the 2010 International Student Design Competition. The architectural design competition, held by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), is open to students of architecture currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program. This year’s project was to design a building to house a Classroom of the Future on a site in Tennessee utilizing tilt-up concrete construction. Emphasis was placed on the overall quality of the design and its strength as an environmentally sustainable building solution.

ASC to Host SkillsUSA-Region I Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics

Nearly 1,000 BOCES students, their advisers, observers, parents, and guests from Western New York counties, including Allegany, Steuben, Monroe, Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Cattaraugus, and Ontario, will converge on the Alfred State College (462 student competitors) campus and the ASC School of Applied Technology (271 student competitors) campus, Wellsville, where they will compete in their areas of study.

Alfred State College will host the upcoming 22nd annual SkillsUSA-Region I Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics, (formerly VICA-- Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) Tuesday, March 8, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Jamestown Rallies for Victory

The Alfred State College men’s basketball team led for the first 32 minutes of the game but Jamestown CC tied it and outscored the Pioneers 20-16 in the final eight minutes to earn a 69-65 victory.

Branden Woods led the Jayhawks with 19 points and eight rebounds while Zieyik Estime added 17 points.  Markus Williams chipped in 13.  JCC was helped by a 28 for 41 performance at the foul line.  They also held a 43-31 advantage on the boards.

The Alfred State College women’s basketball team never could get much going as they fell 66-43 to Jamestown CC on Thursday.  ASC falls to 11-10 on the year while JCC improves to 20-5.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) led the Lady Pioneers with 16 points and eight rebounds while Nuri Bey (Bronx/Evander Childs) had a monster night with 14 points and 21 rebounds.  ASC was slowed by 2 for 22 shooting from three and 50% foul shooting.
