Win Streak Snapped

The six-game winning streak of the Alfred State College women's soccer team was snapped by Jamestown Olean.  The Jaguars defeated ASC 1-0.

JCC-Olean scored the lone goal of the contest with 26:52 remaining in the 2nd half.  ASC held to a 9 to 7 shot on goal advantage.  Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) made six saves for the Pioneers.

ASC is now 7-2 on the season and 6-2 in Region III Division III play.

Alfred State returns to action on Thursday when they return to Pioneer Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest with Erie CC.

Fall Baseball Season Comes to an End for ASC

The Alfred State College fall baseball season came to an end on Tuesday following a 12-3 loss at Erie CC in the 1st round of the WNYAC Tournament.  ASC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning but could never recover after ECC answered with six runs in the bottom of the 1st.

Garrett Hoag (Dansville) and Keegan Pierce (Hornell) were each 2-3 for with a RBI for the Pioneers.

ASC wraps up the fall season with a 2-11 mark.  They will return to action in March when they take their annual trip to Florida for spring training.

Students Help With Flood Relief

Angelia Cavanaugh, Whitesville, the sole female member of the crew, prepares for her shift on the equipment.On a recent Wednesday morning, Professor Mark Payne asked his students if any of them would be interested in a trip to the Schoharie area to assist in flood relief efforts there.

Despite general grumblings of how today’s youth spend too much time texting or living in cyberspace, students enrolled in Alfred State College’s View additional photos of students assisting in flood relief efforts in the Schoharie area.

Five New Members Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

2011 Hall of Fame ClassDuring Homecoming 2011, five Alfred State College athletic alumni were inducted into the athletic department hall of fame.  Swimmer John Meade, track & field athlete Damian Rodriguez, lacrosse player Matthew Covert, baseball player Joe Greany, and swimmer Ashley Vogl will join the 56 inducted athletes.

Murphy and Wood Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Cross Country runner Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and football player John Wood (Rochester/East) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the Sports Information department.

Murphy led the #1 ranked Lady Pioneers with a 38th place finish at the Houghton College Invitational.  She finished the 5k course as the top NJCAA runner in a race featuring mostly 4-year school competition in 20:02.77.  ASC finished in 10th place in the competition.

Masonry Students Construct Pizza Oven

Pastor Wright next to the pizza oven.Senior masonry students at Alfred State College recently donated their skills and time to construct a pizza oven for The Jesus Church in Addison.

Pastor Wright next to the pizza oven.Senior Building Trades Department at the College, and pastor, Chenunda Creek Fellowship Church, commissioned Richard’s students to build a similar oven for his ministry. Wright paid for the materials, and ASC students donated the labor.

Men's Basketball to Host Blood Drive

The Alfred State College men's basketball team has teamed up with the Community Blood Bank to host a blood drive on September 27.  If you donate at this drive you will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Buffalo Sabres tickets.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team has teamed up with the Community Blood Bank to host a blood drive on September 27.  If you donate at this drive you will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Buffalo Sabres tickets.

The blood drive will be held in the Braddon Hall Lounge from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Tuesday the 27th.  Interested donors can sign up for a time with a men's basketball player or people can just walk-in.

One lucky donor this month to the Community Blood Bank will receive two tickets to the Sabres vs. Florida Panthers game on October 29.

Baseball Heading to Erie for WNYAC 1st Round

The Alfred State College baseball will be the #6 seed in this weeks Western New York Athletic Conference tournament.  The Pioneers (2-10) will travel to #3 seed Erie CC for a 1st round match-up with the Kats.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the Williamsville campus on Tuesday

Erie earned the #3 seed after finishing the WNYAC regular season with a 8-4 mark including a sweep of Alfred State 7-1 and 11-2 on September 11.

Baseball Closes Out WNYAC Play

The Alfred State College baseball team closed out the WNYAC regular season on Sunday with 11-1 and 13-9 losses to Genesee CC.  ASC heads into the WNYAC tournament starting on Tuesday with a 2-10 record.

In the opener, GCC collected 13 hits and held the Pioneers to just six.  Dylan Dunn (Hornell) continued his hot hitting with a 2 for 4 day while Ryan Hierlwimmer (North Collins) drove home the lone run.

Pioneers Win One at ASC Pod

After winning their opening match of the ASC pod 3-2 in a dramatic back-and-forth contest, the Lady Pioneers couldn't solve #8 Niagara CCC and #9 Erie CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 12-8 on the season and 7-4 in Region III Division III play.

In their opening match vs. Jamestown, ASC won the first two games 26-24, 25-9 but JCC rallied to win the next two, 23-25, 27-29 to set up a deciding fifth game.  In the fifth, JCC led 12-8 but the Lady Pioneers rallied for a 18-16 win.  The win was the 200th for head coach Gene Doorley during his tenure.
