Johnson Named NJCAA Special Teams POTW

Football player Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) has been named the NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week following the Pioneers 26-20 victory over Erie CC on Saturday.  Johnson is the second Pioneer player to be honored by NJCAA this season.

Johnson set a new ASC football game record by connecting on four field goals in the Pioneers Region III Championship victory.  Johnson hit 26-yard field goal in the 1st quarter and then connected on a 42, 31, and 32 yard field goal in the 3rd quarter. 

Corning Races Back to Down Alfred State

The Alfred State College men's basketball team led for 39 and a half minutes but Corning CC used a big 2nd half run to earn a 76-74 victory.  Corning took their only lead of the game 74-73 with 27 seconds remaining.

The Pioneers led 39-28 at half and led by as many as 15 with just over six minutes left before the Red Barons went on a 25-8 run to close the game.  Nate Acosta scored what proved to be the game winner for CCC.  ASC had a chance as time expired to win the game but a last second shot didn't fall for the blue & gold.

Romero and Brooks lead Lady Pioneers to victory

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Amie Brooks (Pavilion) combined for 52 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball continued their fast start to the 2011-12 season with a 71-66 win over Corning CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-0 on the year.

Romero was 10 for 25 on the day and led all scorers with 27.  She added five rebounds and five assists.  Brooks was 7 for 21 (5 for 10 from three) to finish with 25 points.  She added five steals and four rebounds.

Six Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been honored by the WNYAC.  Holli Pierce (Livonia), Jenna Lynn (York), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were 1st team selections while Lacee Pearl (Olean) and Danielle Henry (Arkport) were 2nd team.

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been honored by the WNYAC.  Holli Pierce (Livonia), Jenna Lynn (York), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were 1st team selections while Lacee Pearl (Olean) and Danielle Henry (Arkport) were 2nd team.

Pierce was second on the Lady Pioneers with 23 points on the season.  She netted 11 goals (5 game winners) and one assists in 14 games.  Earlier in the season she was named 2nd team All-Region.

Four Pioneers Named All-WNYAC Soccer

Four members of the Alfred State College men's soccer team have been named to the All-WNYAC second team.  CJ Reynolds (East Rochester), Peter Dezio (East Rochester), Nick Peraino (Geneseo) and Tim Randall (Churchville Chili) helped the Pioneers to a 5-9-1 season.

Reynolds led the blue & gold with 10 points on the season with four goals and two assists.

Dezio and Peraino both netted four goals on the season to tie with Reynolds for the most by anyone on the team.

Witchella and Johnson Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Alfred State College freshman forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and sophomore football player Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Witchella averaged 24 points per game in the Lady Pioneers two victories on the week.  She scored 48 points including the game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds of a victory over Cayuga CC on the week. She also collected 26 rebounds and blocked ten shots.

Turner Named Region Athlete of the Week

Alfred State College sophomore football player Anthony Turner (Syracuse/Corcoran) has been named the Region III Athlete of the Week.  Turner led the Pioneers defense as they defeated Erie CC 26-20 to claim the Region III Championship.

Turner finished the contest with seven solo tackles and one assisted tackle on the day.  He was credited with two sacks (loss of 14) and four tackles for a loss (20 yards) and one forced fumble.  On the year he finishes with a team high 62 tackles and 10 sacks.

Public Invited to Reception at Hinkle Gallery Exhibit “Always Lost”

As part of the exhibit, Alfred State College has included the story of one of its own, US Army veteran Joe Greenthal, ASC Class of 2009, payment services assistant at ASC, whose story is included among the permanent stories in the collection.

Alfred State College continues to host a traveling art exhibit, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War,” through the end of the semester, in the Hinkle Memorial Library gallery. Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 11 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 1 - 7 p.m., and Sunday 1 - 11 p.m. The show is open to the public free of charge. The library will host a reception open to the public on Monday, Nov. 21, from 4-6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

WINS Club Hosts MacCrea, '06,
