Romero and Brooks lead Lady Pioneers to victory

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Amie Brooks (Pavilion) combined for 52 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball continued their fast start to the 2011-12 season with a 71-66 win over Corning CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-0 on the year.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Amie Brooks (Pavilion) combined for 52 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball continued their fast start to the 2011-12 season with a 71-66 win over Corning CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-0 on the year.

Romero was 10 for 25 on the day and led all scorers with 27.  She added five rebounds and five assists.  Brooks was 7 for 21 (5 for 10 from three) to finish with 25 points.  She added five steals and four rebounds.

Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computeres & Technology) and Ardaisha Hudson (Brooklyn/Food & Finance) each pulled down eight rebounds each as ASC held a slight 51-48 advantage on the boards.

Heather Reynolds led the Red Barons with 22 while Mollie Peck finished with 17.  Bridgette Sutryk came off the bench and chipped in 10 points and 12 boards.

ASC led 42-31 at halftime.  They shot 31.9% from the field, 44.4% from three, and just 48.7% (19 for 39) from the foul line.  CCC shot 36.4% from the field, 25% from three, and 65.7% from the foul line.

After a few days off the Lady Pioneers host the annual ASC Tournament.  They take on Hagerstown CC at Noon on Saturday to open up the tournament.  Fulton Montgomery CC and Genesee CC square off at 2 p.m. in the other opening day contest.
