The Alfred State College men's basketball team led for 39 and a half minutes but Corning CC used a big 2nd half run to earn a 76-74 victory.  Corning took their only lead of the game 74-73 with 27 seconds remaining.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team led for 39 and a half minutes but Corning CC used a big 2nd half run to earn a 76-74 victory.  Corning took their only lead of the game 74-73 with 27 seconds remaining.

The Pioneers led 39-28 at half and led by as many as 15 with just over six minutes left before the Red Barons went on a 25-8 run to close the game.  Nate Acosta scored what proved to be the game winner for CCC.  ASC had a chance as time expired to win the game but a last second shot didn't fall for the blue & gold.

Alfred State was their worst enemy at times.  They shot just 14 for 37 from the foul line, turned the ball over 28 times, and was outrebounded 59 to 47 including 26 to 12 on the offensive glass.

Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) led Alfred State with 21 points while Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) added 12.  Darin Butts (Jamestown) finished with 10 while DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) had six points and 11 assists.

Acosta led the Red Barons with 18 points while Jarryd Johnson finished with 12.  Joel Diaz chipped in 11 and Joel Cramer had a double double with 10 points and 12 boards.

The Pioneers shift their focus to this weekend's ASC Tournament.  ASC takes on Northern Essex (MA) CC in their first round match-up on Saturday at 7 p.m.   Rockland CC battles Fulton Montgomery CC in the other contest.
