Pioneers Win at the Buzzer

Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift the Alfred State men's basketball team to a 58-56 victory over Monroe CC.  The victory snaps a Pioneers five game losing skid and improves the team to 7-18 (2-10 WNYAC).

Lady Pioneers win 5th Straight

After a slow start, the Alfred State women's basketball team raced past Roberts Wesleyan JV 70-45 in a non-conference tilt.  The Raiders jumped out to a 12-7 lead but the Pioneers answered with a 32 to 8 run to close out the half.

Dream Week Activities

Shelby GadsdenAs a part of last month’s Dream Week activities, Alfred State and Alfred University coordinated a community service called Day of Service. Twenty-three students, staff, and faculty members from both campuses volunteered at various locations around the area, including, Turning Point Catholic Charities, Hornell; Jones Memorial Hospital and Manor Hills, Wellsville; and St. Jude’s Chapel, Alfred.

Hall and Nagle Named Athletes of the Week

Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hill) and Travis Nagle (Randolph) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Hall had a big week for the Pioneer basketball team. He averaged 23 ppg and 9 rpg in the blue & gold's three contests.  He recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds vs. Genesee, had 26 points and nine rebounds at Erie, and finished the week with 21 points and seven rebounds at Niagara.  For the season, Hall is averaging 13.8 ppg and 6.2 rebounds.  He leads the team with 52 made 3-pointers.

The Alfred State women's basketball team saw a double-digit 2nd half lead disappear but was able to score the games final five points to earn a 73-69 victory over Mercyhurst North East in a key Region III Division II contest.  The sweet Valentine's Day victory improves the Lady Pioneers to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in RIII DII while MNE is 13-5 overall and 6-1 in RIII DII play.

The Alfred State men's basketball team trailed by as many as 22 points but was able to rally and cut the lead to four but Mercyhurst North East ended the game on a 10-1 to earn a 70-57 victory in a WNYAC contest on Tuesday.  MNE improves to 13-11 (5-6 WNYAC) while the Pioneers are 6-18 (1-10 WNYAC).

President Anderson Presents Check for “Pennies for Pets” Campaign

President, students, cats, and Campaign 101 checkBecause the estimated cost of spaying/neutering 101 animals is $6,000, students hope to help offset that cost by having each Alfred State student contribute 101 pennies toward that goal. Students will be provided a pair of penny wrappers (donated by Steuben Trust) with a request that they are returned with 101 pennies inside.

‘Team Alfred’ Enters Solar Decathlon China 2013 in International Collaboration

A total of 37 universities from 13 countries have formed 24 teams that were accepted for the 2013 competition, co-hosted by the China National Energy Administration and the United States Department of Energy.

‘Team Alfred,’ which will include students from Alfred University, Alfred State College, and Guilin University of Technology in China, has officially entered the Solar Decathlon China 2013.

Peet and Simons Qualify for Wrestling Nationals

Alfred State wrestlers Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) qualified for the NJCAA National Championships with 2nd place finishes at the Northeast Districts/Region III Championships. As a team, the Pioneers finished 5th in the competition with 67 points.
