Alfred State instructor’s liver donation story gains national attention

The inspiring story of an Alfred State College (ASC) faculty member’s journey to save his son’s life recently caught the attention of a well-known national news program.

In his spring 2020 Opening Remarks speech, President Dr. Skip Sullivan asked employees to take a moment to thank these individuals and to realize the important role that they play or have played in their own lives.

To help make his point, Sullivan shared the story of Charles Plumb, a US Navy jet pilot in Vietnam whose plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands.

Students to continue working on signs for Wellsville

Alfred State students will continue to gain valuable real-world, hands-on learning experience while helping the local community this spring by working on two newly constructed welcome signs in Wellsville.

Alfred State students will continue to gain valuable real-world, hands-on learning experience while helping the local community this spring by working on two newly constructed welcome signs in Wellsville.

As reported by the Wellsville Regional News, construction began in early 2019  “when Alfred State masonry students poured a foundation and began laying blocks on the southeast side intersection of Madison Street and Routes 417/19. The work continued in the fall when students placed brick facing on the first monument and construction of the second.”

Alumna realizes dream of working on Rose Parade floats

Longtime florist and Alfred State College alumna Susanne Bostrom recently saw her dream come true when she worked on floats for the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA.

Longtime florist and Alfred State College alumna Susanne Bostrom recently saw her dream come true when she worked on floats for the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA.

According to Steamboat Pilot & Today, Bostrom, who holds degrees in ornamental horticulture and business from Alfred State, worked with a group of designers to make trees for four parade floats.

A closer look: Alfred State’s Wayne Bensley brings real-world knowledge to the classroom

ASC helping court reporting students through Project Steno

Danielle Green, an assistant professor in Alfred State’s Business Department, noted that she will be donating her time in January during the evenings to instruct a basic training course to prospective students.

Alfred State College (ASC) is partnering with Project Steno to help put students on a path to a rewarding career in the high-demand field of court reporting.

Based out of Worcester, MA, Project Steno promotes the stenographic court reporting/captioning profession through social media and community outreach, with the goal of building a robust pipeline of students into school and graduating them in two years.
