ASC students hit their target by starting a new competitive club and secured two #1 national rankings. We have club advisors/coaches to thank for setting their sights high.

The Alfred State trap team recently celebrated the success of their first season.

During this time of giving, I always think the most precious gift that you can give someone is your time and talent (although I think my children think otherwise!). Regardless, this week I’d like to recognize the efforts of Brad Smith, who gives so very generously of both.

Brad recently stepped up as the chair of the automotive department on our Wellsville campus but has still found the time to oversee our new Trap team as their coach. As he does in the classroom, Brad teaches, mentors, and molds the young minds of those he encounters. It is clear that the students think very highly of Brad and the assistant coaches (Chris Cicora, Bernie Smith, and Ric McEnroe) who are all either community members or relatives of students in the club, including Brad’s father.

Brad Smith speaks about the success of the season and hands out awards to individuals on the team.

I had the opportunity to see this first-hand at a celebration dinner for the team after they finished 5th in the nation, including two first-place finishes! This is incredible considering this is a first-year team, who are all first-year students, some of whom had little to no experience with the sport. His recruitment efforts for growing the program are already well underway. The recruits will inevitably be in great hands as this program grows and sets new goals for exceeding the already impressive outcome they had this first year of competition.

Thank you Brad for all that you give to our students.
